Bitebox by The Pantry Gourmets, who kindly sent me this box to review, is a monthly membership providing top American Artisan products, hand picked from passionate producers across the USA. Each month you can expect to receive 4-6 full-sized products along with Professional Chef derived delicious recipes that showcase the flavors of those items.
Bitebox ships on the 20th of the month via UPS. Tracking is provided and you can expect to receive your box within 5-7 days of shipment.
Bitebox is brand new so this is the first time I have unboxed one. It was very heavy (it weighed 6 pounds) and I had no idea what to expect.
All the products were contained in a reusable tote and a small wooden box was also included. I thought at first that the little box was actually suppose to hold all of the products, but then realized that since they are all full-sized, there is no way they would fit.
The August 2014 Bitebox theme was “Master of the Coals” and included the following items:
~Pantry Gourmets Recipe Box: Your first Bitebox includes a recipe box for you to store the recipe cards that are sent each month. I love this idea and think the box is nice enough to leave out on the counter.
~SlantShack Jerky ($6.75): B loves SlantShack jerky and is going to be thrilled to see this. It’s made fresh to order and is to be consumed within a month of receipt. There is no way B will be able to keep it around an entire month though. I give it two days. Tops.
~Rufus Teague Whiskey Maple BBQ Sauce ($6.95): As long as BBQ sauce isn’t overly hot, I like it. A lot actually. We’ve had this brand in the past and it’s been delicious.
~Sir Kensingtons Scooping Ketchup ($5.25): Of all the condiments we have received over the years from subscription boxes, this is one of our favorites. It’s much different tasting than your regular Heinz ketchup (probably because it’s got 50% less sugar), but it’s also much healthier. It took me a while to get used to, but I am a fan now.
~Skillet Street Food Original Bacon Spread ($10): I am not a big fan of bacon, but bacon spread is different. It’s amazing on burgers and B and I both like it a lot.
~Boise Ranch Rubs ($8.99): These rubs are low in salt and preservative and msg-free, which makes them different than a lot of the supermarket rubs. Not sure what B has planned for dinner this weekend, but I suspect it will include BBQ with some of these new items.
~Bourbon Barrel Foods Bourbon Smoked Pepper ($9): This is another product we have had in the past and enjoyed. It’s great on the BBQ and works well with tons of different foods.
~Recipe Cards: The box also includes recipe cards featuring all of the items from that month. I think these are a fabulous idea and, with the exception of the meatloaf (I am not a meatloaf fan), I want to try them all.
All totaled I came up with a value of $46.94 for the August 2014 Bitebox. That doesn’t include the value of the recipes or the recipe box though, which would boost the value to well over the $50 cost of the box. I think that this is going to be a box to watch. I am for sure looking forward to seeing some future boxes from them to see what they do.
