Yay, my August 2014 Hazel Lane box is (finally) here! This marks the last of my August boxes to arrive and I couldn’t wait to open it up.
If you aren’t familiar, Hazel Lane sends a carefully curated box of surprise goodies from that month’s selected city that they think represents its spirit. The idea is to give you an affordable way to explore the world without having to leave your house! Items you can expect to see included are food, drink, clothing, accessories and handcrafted items chosen by locals with the environment, social responsibility and CHICNESS in mind. I subscribe to the “Classic” box which is $47.99/month.
Hazel Lane ships via USPS Priority Mail. They recently outsourced their shipping facilities, so there were a few kinks (aka delays) this month. Hopefully that’s all ironed out and we are back on track for the September box.
Everything was packaged very nicely. I hadn’t gotten a chance to check out any spoilers for this box, so I was ready to dig in.
The August 2014 Hazel Lane destination was “Austin” and were all from minority or female co/founded companies. Here is what was included:
~Monorail Studio Hand Printed Print ($15): I have no idea where I am going to put this, but it’s going somewhere. I kind of even like it for the kid’s playroom or in the basement play area. Is that weird?
~Stubb’s BBQ Rub ($6.99): Stubb’s BBQ Sauce appeared in another box recently, so I am sort of familiar with it. B will happily use this rub on something fabulous and hopefully he leaves some for me to try ;).
~Dip Dye Napkins by Austin Tie Dye Co. ($25): Love these. I don’t know that I will use them as napkins because we really aren’t cloth napkin kind of people (we are paper towel kind of people), but I will use them. Maybe to wrap around a bottle of wine or in a bread basket? Something like that. They are totally gorgeous that’s for sure!
~Vinca Anchor Laser Cut Earrings ($16): Anchors don’t really come to mind when I think of Austin, but when I read the card I understood the reasoning behind them more. Wearing them will help to keep you anchored while you explore Austin and all the weird it has to offer. I have never been to Austin but would love to visit.
All totaled I came up with a value of $62.99 for the August 2014 Hazel Lane Austin Box. I was familiar with one of the items this month and the rest were totally new to me which I love. Hazel Lane does an amazing job of seeking out unknown / smaller companies to work with and I so appreciate that.
What do you think of Hazel Lane? If you are interested in subscribing or want to learn more, click here. In addition to the Classic box which is the one I subscribe to and is $47.99/month, they offer a Deluxe Box ($69.99/month), an Uber Deluxe Box ($114.99/month) and a G5 Box ($179.99/month).
There isn’t a coupon code available right now, however, for the next few days Hazel Lane is on Gilt City. They are offering a variety of options which you can check out here. If you end up snagging a box let me know which one you end up with. I am kind of partial to the Brooklyn box myself. That perfume is amazing!
