My September 2014 Sample Society arrived yesterday afternoon. If you aren’t familiar with them, Sample Society is the brainchild of the editors of Allure Magazine. Each month they select a curated mix of five deluxe skin, hair, makeup and fragrance samples and deliver them to your door. Your subscription also includes a coupon for $10 off $50 a BeautyBar purchase each month and an Allure penned “mini-magazine” which gives you the details on all the samples.
Sample Society ships via UPS and took only a few (two I think) days to arrive to me. I actually just got the tracking for it yesterday, which happened to be the same day it arrived.
Of course I already knew everything that was in this box, but I was still plenty excited to open it all up. The spoilers had looked fabulous and I wanted to check out the sizes of all the products.
In honor of Fashion Week Month, the Allure editors have included miracle workers they swear by to keep (and you) looking glamorous in the September Sample Society Box. Here is what was inside:
~Givenchy Dahlia Divin Perfume ($2.17): The booklet describes this scent as warm and sexy, but in a subtle way. However, I would describe it as rich / deep smelling and fancy. It reminds me of the smell when you walk into a high-end department store. I definitely like it, but I don’t think I could pull it off everyday.
~Alterna Caviar Repairx Re-Texturizing Protein Cream ($9.26): Huge love. It made my hair smoother and easier to comb after using it just once. It’s suppose to make hair stronger as well, but I haven’t been using it long enough to get those benefits. Hopefully soon.
~Tarte Brazillance Self Tanning Face Towelettes ($9): I have never used these before and I really like them. They are super easy to apply and looked natural. And unlike lots of self-tanners, they don’t stink. I am probably going to try to trade for more.
~Restorsea Revitalizing Eye Cream ($85): This is the item I was most excited about. It’s full size which is incredible because I will be able to really tell if it’s doing it’s job. It is suppose to reduce fine lines and crow’s-feet and is safe for sensitive skin. I tested it out right away and actually thought it burned a little bit. Maybe burned isn’t the right word? It tingled. It didn’t hurt, it just felt like something was happening (which I hope it was).
~Lorac POREfection Mattifying Face Primer ($3.20): This soaks up oil (and shine) and helps your makeup stay put. I don’t wear a ton of makeup, but I will put it under my BB cream / powder.
All totaled I came up with a value of $108.63 for the September 2014 Allure Sample Society. I am thrilled I signed up for this box a few months ago and it’s a total keeper. I am already looking forward to next month.

The card said that some users would experience a “tingle” when using the eye cream. I was a little nervous about that since it is around my eye but as long as it does what it says, that’s fine by me. I use a tingle lotion in the tanning bed (yes, gasp! the tanning bed) so I am used to a little/lot of tingle. Overall I think this box was a win. I thought the eye cream was going to be my favorite but Alterna wins every. single. time. =)
How did I miss that on the card? I swear I read that thing!
Sniff, sniff. Why did I cancel because I did not need eye cream. I need hair cream!!! I signed up a day too late. I’m not cancelling October’s shipment.
The hair cream is so nice!
Where can you look up to see what is coming in the subscription boxes? I get Birchbox and Ipsy but may switch Birchbox for this one!
It depends on the box. Sample Society does lots of sneak peeks on their Facebook.
