September 2014 Julep Maven

I got a few subscription boxes this afternoon including my September 2014 Julep Maven selection. It seemed to ship a little later than normal this month, but it’s here now.

If you aren’t familiar, Julep is a monthly nail polish subscription service.  They have recently switched a few things up and are now offering a “My Maven” box for $24.99/month which contains $40+ worth of product and polish or “Maven Luxe” for $39.99/month which contains $60+ of prestige products.  Both boxes are fully customizable and you have the option to switch between tiers.  Subscribers prior to 4/29/14 are grandfathered in at the $19.99/month rate, however, they will need to upgrade to the $24.99 subscription if they want to customize their boxes.  If you opt for a prepaid subscription of 3-months, you can also get the $19.99/rate which is fully customizable!

The Box

Julep now ships via FedEx Smart Post.  My box took four days to arrive which wasn’t too bad.  Julep moved their shipping to a more centralized location (it’s now in Ohio) and I think they are still working out some kinks.

First Look

I could not remember what box I opted for this month, but I knew that I didn’t do an upgrade.  I am still resisting the customizable box option (I like that $19.99 rate) so I did know that I had opted for one of the pre-selected boxes.  I checked my order and it turns out I opted for the “Bombshell” box this month.

The Information Card

The September 2014 Julep Maven boxes featured “The Art Walk Collection” and the Bombshell box this month included the following items:

~Julep Kirby (Bombshell) ($14 / $11.20): Kirby is a silver jagged glitter top coat and I love it. If there’s a glitter like this offered from Julep, I have to have it. I am thinking about digging around in my collection for a “Honolulu Blue” color (there must be one in my closer) to use as a base coat and then using this as a top coat in honor of the Lions game on Monday!

Julep Kirby (Bombshell)

~Julep Eliana (Bombshell) ($11.20 / $14): Eliana is a soft denim creme and exactly matches the shredded paper in the box this month.  It’s perfect for fall and even prettier in person than in pictures.

Julep Eliana (Bombshell)

~Julep Push Pout Lip Crayon (Magenta Plum) ($16 / $20): I almost opted for a box this month with no lip pout, but at the last minute I changed my mind.  I am really glad I did because this is a great crayon.  It went on so smoothly and the color isn’t as bold as it appears.   I may even pick up a few other colors of this.

Julep Push Pout Lip Crayon (Magenta Plum)

All totaled I came up with a value of $38.40 (or $48 if you don’t use Maven pricing) for the September 2014 Julep Maven “Bombshell” Box.  I am even more pleased with this box now that I have it in my hands.  I wasn’t overly thrilled with the collection this month when I first saw it, but I am super glad I didn’t end up skipping.

Did you get Julep this month?  What collection did you get? As always, if you are interested in subscribing to Julep, click here and use the coupon code “FREEBOX” to get your first box for $4.99 (you pay only the shipping)!  Or you can use the coupon code “FREECITY” to get this free 4-piece City Lights or “FREEFALL” to get this free 4-piece Fall Fashion Box when you sign up for a new Maven subscription (again you will just be responsible for shipping).
