My September 2014 Nicky Hilton Fancy Box arrived earlier today and I have to tell you, I didn’t even realize that it was coming until I got the tracking e-mail for it.  For some reason I thought that I had already received the September NH Fancy Box.  I guess not.

Just in case you aren’t familiar, Fancy, which is $39/month (plus shipping), has a “regular” Fancy Box full of cool goodies and celebrity curated boxes which include a collection of the coolest products hand-picked by Nicky Hilton (which is their latest celebrity collaboration) Jennifer Love HewittVerbalKelly RowlandCoco RochaSnoop DoggT-Pain and / or The Rockettes. They also offer a Fancy Food Box (which is one of my favorites), a Culinary Box and Fancy Mystery Boxes.

Fancy Box ships via FedEx and took two days to arrive.  This box shipped on Tuesday and I received it on Thursday.

First Look

I was underwhelmed by the first look.  Nicky’s first two boxes have been amazing, so I had high hopes for it.

The Information Cards

The information cards gave me no indication which celebrity box this was.  There was no mention of Nicky Hilton on them at all.   These are actually the cards that used to come in Fancy boxes a few months ago before they started to use just the one larger card.   No idea what was up this month, but here is what I received:

~Moleskine Classic ($13):  I love Moleskine notebooks (all notebooks really) and will throw this one in my bag so I can jot notes down whenever.

~Midnight Clutch by Emilie M ($50): I received this clutch back in the Mother’s Day Fancy Box, which is why I am not overly excited by it. It will end up being traded because I don’t need two.

~Lace Deck of Cards ($10): These cards are different and I will use them for sure.  Now I wouldn’t buy a $10 deck of cards on my own, but I don’t mind if they come in a subscription box.

~NCLA Pizzo Nail Wraps ($16): I really need to start using the nail wraps I have.  I seriously have so many cute ones that I can never decide which to use and end up just going for polish.

All totaled I came up with a value of $89 for the September Nicky Hilton Fancy Box.  Sadly this box was a miss for me.  It had the promised value, but unlike her first two boxes which were fabulous, I felt like this one missed the mark for me.  Hopefully next month will be incredible.

Did you get the September Nicky Hilton Fancy Box?  What’d you think?  If you are thinking of ordering this or ANY of the Fancy Boxes, click here and get on it! If you can’t find the Fancy Box you are looking for, I suggest just doing search for “Fancy Box“. It’s much easier than trying to navigate their site and you’ll be able to find all the fancy boxes there, as well as, the Mystery Boxes.

Um, can I have that clutch, it’s adorable? LOL!

    1. Jennifer

      LOL. Sure. E-mail me!

I sent you an email through the “Contact Me” tab! I hope that worked 🙂

I’m happy with my box. I was hoping for her book or a matching bracelet to the ring from last month and was surprised to see a clutch. Did you take the cards out of the package? They are really pretty. I love receiving notebooks and like the nailwraps. Everything is black and/or white. Even the nailwraps that I received are black and white.

Fancy is a complete rip off, there cooking boxes are good, but with the other boxes, especially female ones they just fill them with products that they need to get rid off or repeats from other boxes, the Clutch is nice but it was a mystery box item, in my opinion they shouldn’t be putting repeats in the boxes and I have no doubt that Fancy curated that box themselves

    1. Jennifer

I don’t think they should have any repeats either. They have so much stuff on Fancy! Just pick something else to send!

      1. Lynsey

What confirmed it for me is when they posted those 3 mothers day boxes this year, they were filled with the same crap as the mystery boxes, total disappointment, as always thanks for sharing though! x

It seems like Fancy has a limited selection of products and all curators have to choose from those products. Unlike Quarterly, in which curators can reach out to different brands and have them collaborate with them.

I’ve been reading your blog for quite some time (2 years??) and it seems like almost every type of Fancy box has overlap with products. Not worth it IMO, and also not the best way to retain a customer base and bring in new customers.

    1. Jennifer

I would love to know how they have their curators select things. Do they give them a list of items to pick from each month??

      1. Caitlin

I would like to know too! It does seem like Fancy gives them a list, otherwise there wouldn’t be so much overlap!

  5. Kristin

wow that’s really a disappointing box – I know I wish I had got Coco’s this month I’m feeling the Wanderlust

    1. Jennifer

I liked hers this month too!

I just cancelled my Nicky Hilton box, which was the last of my Fancy subs. Their boxes are just garage sale stuff, and repeats.

    1. Jennifer

It started off so strong! I hope this was just a fluke!

  7. Jenn

I really want to get more sub boxes but when I think about getting stuff I wouldn’t use I talk myself out of it. I’d love to hear more about trading! Maybe you could educate us? 😉

    1. Jennifer

Head over to My Subscription Addiction’s site and check out the Swap section!

    2. Caitlin

I also use MSA’s swap site and I love it! If you have lots of items from sub boxes that you don’t want/need, it’s a great way to pass them on to others. I’ve traded for items from subs that I’ve really liked, or items that I missed out on!

Reading the comments has me rethinking the box. I don’t think there should be repeats especially a clutch that has been in 2 boxes. I do like the items I received and hope it is a fluke. I’m hanging in there for the next month and hope it will be more like the first two boxes. I will cancel at that point if it is a typical Fancy box because I do not want to be paying $50.00 for that. Still I like this box so it is not a waste for me. I would be annoyed if I was receiving Fancy boxes for months because it is similar to items received in other Fancy boxes.

  9. Stephanie Tuttle

I guess my feelings echo everyone elses. I was disappointed that the items did not seem original, especially now that I see others got them in previous specialty or mystery boxes. In fact, I noticed that the packing list listed the items and not that it was the Nicky Hilton box. Haven’t paid attention to that before, so I don’t know if that’s always true. I’m OK with what I got, but it doesn’t seem very “special.” I also will hang in there one more month, but if it looks like a “reworked” box again, that will likely be my last.

    1. Jennifer

I think they used to say it on the packing list, but don’t anymore for any boxes.
