Zoobean, who kindly sent me this package to review, is a monthly subscription service which helps you build your individual child’s literacy with remarkable children’s books and apps selected just for him or her. You are able to select between a monthly book delivery service (from $9.99/month) that gives you one hardcover or paperback book each month, along with an app recommendation + literacy guides or a digital service option (from $2.99/month) and receive weekly personalized app + book recommendations that come with literacy guides.
This selection is for L who is 6 years old. I also received a book for WB (he’s 2) and that review should be coming in a few days.
The Book
Zoobean ships via USPS Media Mail. Sometimes Media Mail takes over a week to arrive, but this appeared in just a few days.
L’s book selection this month was Cheetah Can’t Lose (which is selling for $13.34 on Amazon right now) and I think this is one of the best books we have gotten from them. Don’t get me wrong, they are all fabulous, but L really “got” this story. I think it helped him to realize what what it feels like to NOT be the winner at everything and also that winning doesn’t always make you feel like you are the best. This book had great illustrations as well.
The App
L’s app selection this month was Ansel and Clair: Little Green Island. It’s $1.99 and
gets great reviews. I might wait until he gets bored with Minecraft (will this ever happen?) before I download it for him.
The Zoobean plan I received is $16.95, which includes the monthly hardcover book + the digital reading guide + the app selection and app companion. If you are interested in just the Digital Service, it’s $2.99/month and you will receive a weekly email that includes an expert created Reading Guide or App Companion along with a book or app recommendation. And then you can pick up the book at the bookstore or borrow it from your local library! They always pick such great books for us that I wouldn’t have picked up otherwise and I love that!
