Bean Box, who kindly sent me this box to review, is a monthly coffee subscription box. Each month you will receive four 1.7 oz. bags of whole bean coffee from Seattle’s top-rated roasters. According to Bean Box, this is approximately 15+ cups of coffee depending on your brewing method and strength preferences.
Bean Box ships via USPS First Class Mail. Boxes are sent on the 1st and 15th of the month depending on when you placed your order.
Not only did this box look great, it smelled great as well!
I was going to wait until after B tried all of these to do my review, but I realized that I wouldn’t get any details whatsoever from him anyway. He will take these to work and all I will hear is that “he liked them”. LOL. Instead, I will give you a little background on the roasters that were included in the October 2014 Bean Box.
~Kuma Coffee Guatemala La Esperanza: This coffee is from a farmer named Aurelio Villatoro. Kuma Coffee forms relationships with each of their farmers and works with them to improve harvest and also the community for their pickers. The coffee itself has notes of semi-sweet chocolate, nougat, vanilla, rainier cherry, grape.
~Herkimer Coffee Drip Blend: This coffee is described as a well rounded everyday blend. It’s a directly sourced blend from 5 producers in El Cedral and El Cielito districts from farms that practice traditional old world cultivation methods (growing coffee in naturally shaded areas where no pesticides and fertilizers are used).
~Lighthouse Roasters Roasters Choice: Roaster’s Choice is the signature coffee of Lighthouse Roasters. It’s described as a “bold roast” and if I had to guess, I would say that this one will be B’s favorite.
~Longshoreman’s Daughter Ethiopian Yirgacheffe: I can’t find a website for this roaster, but this is described by Bean Box as having a sweet, lively taste with hints of citrus, cane sugar, and black tea and is the “gateway” to discovering artisan coffee. Sort of like Birchbox is the gateway to discovering subscription boxes ;).
I didn’t do a cost breakdown on this box, but I feel like at $5/bag, this is an awesome way to try and discover lots of new coffee beans. B absolutely loves coffee and will seriously have this gone within a week (he shares at work).
