October 2014 Birchbox (Laggies + Birchbox)

I have a lot of boxes on their way to me, but they all seem to be taking quite a while to arrive this month.  Happily though, my (other) October 2014 Birchbox did arrive today!  I received my first (I have two subscriptions) Birchbox last week which you can check out here.

If you aren’t familiar, Birchbox, which is $10/month, offers 4-6 (sometimes more) hand-picked beauty and lifestyle samples, delivered to your door each month. You can review the samples you receive on a monthly basis to earn points in their shop, which makes the “real” cost of the box even less. Points accumulate until you are ready to spend, so you can stockpile and combine with coupon codes and get some complete steals (which I try to do).

The Box

Birchbox ships via USPS through Newgistics.  This box shipped on the 10th and I received it today (the 15th).  Have you noticed that Birchbox has continued with the fun titles in the address labels?  Mine said “Leading Lady” this month!

Laggies + Birchbox

Birchbox gave subscribers the option this month to select between the Laggies + Birchbox collaboration box or the monthly “Fanfare” box.  Like I have been doing the last few months I opted for the collaboration one on one of my accounts (this one) and opted for the normal monthly box on my other account.

First Look

I probably would have gotten the collaboration box no matter what, but once I saw the contents (the collaboration box contents are revealed in the selection e-mail), I knew I had to get it.  This box didn’t have a number, but there were 61 different variations (*) of the October “Fanfare” box.

The Information Card

I had no idea what “Laggies” was before I got the e-mail for about this month’s boxes, but it’s a coming of age romantic comedy which is in theaters beginning on October 24th.  They teamed up with Birchbox this month to bring us a box for taking on challenges both big and small.  Here is what was included:

~ModelCo Powerlash High Impact Black Mascara ($10): I wasn’t sure about this brush (that’s what really makes the mascara for me) at first, but it’s growing on me.  It’s got a lot of bristles which nicely coats your lashes and gave me lots of length.

~Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator ($5.66): LOVE this stuff! Every time I see it I wonder why I haven’t bought more of it.  Once I collect a few more points I am getting it.  It’s supposed to be used 3-5 times per week and “mimics the effects of microdermabrasion”. It really works.  I swear.

~Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle (~$3): I actually got this in my other October Birchbox this month, but that’s fine by me!  It smells great, locks in color (which I need) and gives your hair a nice silkiness.

~Sage + Fasten Eau de Parfum in Onward ($4): My feelings are mixed on this one.  It smells good, but I don’t know if I like it as a perfume.  Maybe as a room spray? It’s a roll-on though, so I won’t be able to use it as one.  I am going to give it some more time and see what I think.

~Tocca Crema de Mano – Bianca ($5): I love this hand cream.  Like I LOVE It.  I received it last month, but I wouldn’t be sad if it came every month.  It’s just that good.  And I have yet to find a TOCCA scent that I don’t like!

Tocca Crema de Mano in Bianca

All totaled I came up with a value of $27.66 for my October 2014 Laggies + Birchbox box.  Including the points I get for reviewing the items in the box (10 points per item = 50 points = $5 to spend in the Birchbox Shop) plus the points I get for purchasing the box (*) (10 points = $1), I come up with a total value of $33.66.  I am so so so loving these collaborations and really hope it continues monthly.  It’s been 3-months in a row that they have done these (I believe we’ve had The Everygirl Box, The Fashionista Box and now this one) so it’s looking like it could be a new fixture.

Do you subscribe to Birchbox? Did you get your box yet this month? What number was it and what was in it?  If you don’t subscribe (it’s only $10/month) and are interested in learning more, click here and use the coupon code “bbstore100” to get 100 Birchbox Store points when you purchase a women’s monthly or yearly rebillable subscription.  Or use the coupon code “LAGGIES” to get the Laggies + Birchbox box (which is the one I just reviewed) as your first box.

(*) If you want to see all the boxes this month, click here and change the 1 at the end to anything from a 1 to 61 since there were 61 (in comparison, last month there were 58 box variations) box variations this month.
(**) You only get points for purchasing the box if you buy an annual subscription (or 3-month, 6-months, etc.). You don’t get points if you are on a month to month subscription.
