B’s October 2014 Mantry arrived today! If you aren’t familiar with them, Mantry (aka the Modern Man’s Pantry) is a food of the month club that lets you discover the finest american artisan foods – and gives you ideas of what to do with them. At $75/month it’s a spendy box for sure, but B totally totally loves it.
Mantry ships via UPS Sure Post. It starts out with UPS (and is sometimes delivered by UPS if they have another package for you or will be in your area that day anyway) and typically ends up being delivered by the Post Office. My box took two days this month which is about normal for them. It always arrives in just a few days and ships right on the 20th of the month.
I didn’t take a picture of it this month, but Mantry ships their monthly box in super cool wooden crates. We have a big stack of ours in the basement and we are just waiting for the right project to come along so we can use them.
The October 2014 Mantry box was a collaboration with GQ Magazine and was the “GQ How To” box. It included the following items to help you kick up your cocktail party and avoid the lines and high tabs that come with a boys’ night out:
~Bee’s Knees Food Co. Chipotle Lime Peanuts ($4): These are a little too spicy for me, but B will like them. I doubt they will make it much past the weekend though, much less all the way to a “boys night in”.
~Bittermilk Bourbon Barrel Aged Old Fashioned ($15): The last time B drank bourbon it ended badly (well it was fun while it was happening but the next day was a bit rough), so I am guessing he’s going to be a bit more cautious about this one. It includes a cocktail recipe right in the information card which is awesome!
~Savannah Bee Co. Raw Honeycomb ($15): I feel like we have gotten a honeycomb from Mantry before, but I can’t recall what we did with it? The information card this month includes a recipe for a “Gold Rush Cocktail” and also suggests drizzling some over your meat and cheese. Done and done.
~Dude, Sweet Chocolate FDA Chocolate Salami ($12.38): Chocolate salami? Dude what? Ha! Sorry, I couldn’t resist. I am thinking this on a meat and cheese platter this weekend for the Michigan State-Michigan game? Doesn’t that sound good??
~Creninelli Whiskey Salami ($14): This will be added to the meat and cheese plate this weekend as well! We have had salami from this brand before and it’s always amazing. I expect this to be as well.
~Beer Flats Porter Crackers ($6.99): These are absolutely fabulous. They sent a different flavor last fall and they were yummy too. You don’t even have to love beer to love these.
All totaled I came up with a value of $67.37 for the October 2104 Mantry box. While it didn’t quite hit the $75 cost of the box, I am happy because we can’t get a lot of these items locally (that I know of anyway), so if I factored in shipping, we are coming out ahead. Plus, B LOVES Mantry, so I have to take that into account as well.
