Taste Trunk, who kindly sent me this box to review, is a monthly subscription box offering 4 to 6 products, discount coupons, backgrounds on the companies and amazing recipe ideas from one of four themes, including Gourmet, Sweet, BBQ and Healthy Chef. Brands and items are hand selected and trunks are only $35/month. Taste Trunk sent me two boxes to review and I selected the Gourmet and the Sweet boxes. This is my “Sweet” trunk review and you can check out my “Gourmet” box review here.
Taste Trunk ships via USPS with your first box arriving between 5 to 7 days after it is ordered. Subsequent boxes will arrive by the 20th of the month.
Not only are Taste Trunk packages aesthetically pleasing, they are also very securely packaged. They ship fragile items, but they are packed with lots of packing materials to protect them.
Taste Trunk’s information cards include both product information and recipes / suggestions on how to use the products included. The cards are wrapped in an old school newspaper advertisement type bag and are neatly tied. The presentation is top notch and would make a fabulous gift. Here is what my October 2014 Sweet Taste Trunk included:
~Sweet Sams Black & White Cookie (~$3): This cookie was perfection. It was super soft and tasted like it had just come out of the oven. It’s described as a cake like cookie and I find that to be totally true. So good.
~Clairesquares Dark Chocolate Shortbread Squares ($7.99): These are amazing. They are the perfect combination of, well, everything. They have caramel and dark chocolate and shortbread – all things I love. The information card suggests trying them with cabernet which I SO should have tried.
~Carol’s Cookies Oatmeal Raisin with Pecans (~$5): I don’t know if you can tell from my picture or not, but this cookie is giant. Like insanely huge. For real. The card says it weighs a half a pound! While this was good, I think with just chocolate chips instead of nuts and raisins and it would have been incredible.
~Boujie Baking Co. Raspberry Lambic Caramel Sauce ($7): I have a giant caramel addiction. I never used to, but the past few months it’s been out of control. I tried this right away and it was delightful. The information card has a recipe for Cheesecake Cupcakes which include this sauce that sounds out of this world. I am almost scared to make them – they sound so good!
~Mariposa Coconut Lemon Squares ($3.50): I am not a fan of this one. I am sure if you like coconut and pecans and lemon (I actually do like lemon but not in this combo), you’d like it, but it wasn’t for me.
~Mariposa Penguinos ($8.75): So not only are these cupcakes amazing, they are also gluten, wheat & dairy-free and also vegan! I loved that they were individually wrapped so you don’t have to worry about them going bad too soon. L enjoyed them too!
All totaled I came up with a value of $35.24 for the October 2014 Sweets Taste Trunk. I did a little estimating on this one, but I think I am pretty close to the total. I loved the variety in this box and absolutely loved that it was full of items that I not only thought were delicious (for the most part anyway), but also had never heard of before!
