October 2014 Universal Yums

Universal Yums!, who kindly sent me this box to review, is a monthly subscription box featuring international snacks. Each month you will receive a selection of snacks from a different country delivered right to your door.  They offer a “Yum Box” for $13/month which includes 6 or more snacks every month and a “Yum Yum Box” for $25/month which includes 13 or more snacks every month..  I received the Yum Yum Box to review.

The Box

Universal Yums! ships via USPS Priority Mail. Their first box won’t ship until 12/1, but this the box you’ll receive if you subscribed.

First Look

It took me a second to realize that the tissue paper matched the theme this month, but once I did I thought it was very creative!

The Information Card

The first Universal Yums! snack destination was Germany and included the following items:

~Monster Munch Cheese: I would describe these as thin, ghost shaped cheese puffs.  Except they are better.  We all loved these.  I need to find them locally!

~Haribo Gold Bears: Does anyone not love gummy bears? We are all big fans here and will be fighting over these.

Haribo Gold Bears

~Kinder Happy Hippo Hazelnut: We actually have these at our local gourmet grocery store and have gotten them a few times.  They aren’t the best Kinder chocolate out there, but they are one of the cutest!

~Dr. Quendts Dinkelchen: I quickly glanced at the package and thought these were chocolate cover raisins. Turns out they are chocolate covered A’s.  They remind me of a cereal covered in chocolate.  Not a bad thing at all.

~Naturals Paprika Chips: I don’t like these quite as much as I liked the cheddar ghosts, but they are good.

~Hitschler Softi Kaubonbon: The best way to describe these would be a thinner (better) version of Laughy Taffy.  The packages were kind of hard to get open, but that’s kind of to be expected with candy like this.

~Ritter Sport: I think we have these here as well.  I haven’t tried them before this arrived though and I am a fan.

~Curly Peanuts: I am cracking up because B saw these and was like no, I am not having those again.  I don’t remember them at all, but he clearly did.  I tried them and didn’t think they were fantastic or anything, but I didn’t think they were awful.

~Schluckwerder Marzipan: This is marzipan covered with chocolate.  I haven’t gotten a chance to try it yet, but I will.  I am really amazed by the things that people can sculpt with marzipan.  Have you ever seen marzipan babies?  Wow.  Just wow.

Schluckwerder Marzipan

~Manner Lemon Wafers: Loved these!  I love all lemon cookies so suspected I would enjoy these as well.  They were more tart than other lemon wafers I have tried, but I thought it made them better.

~Leibniz Pick Up!: These appeared in another snack box a while back and I loved them.  They are chocolate filled biscuits and are amazing.

~Saltletts Classic: I thought these tasted like regular pretzel sticks, but B thought they were “lighter and more buttery” than other pretzel sticks.  Either way, they were good!

I didn’t do a cost breakdown on the Universal Yums! box, but I thought it was a very fun box to get and can’t wait to see what other countries they decide to feature. Like I mentioned, if you subscribe by 12/1 you will receive this box and for a limited time they are offering their Yum Box for only $10 (reg. $13) and their Yum Yum Box for only $20 (reg.$25)! They have also offered to let me give one away, which you can enter right here! Best of luck!

Disclosure: This complimentary box was sent for review purposes. As always, all opinions are my own and no compensation was received.
