My September 2014 Hazel Lane box arrived while I was away and I was super excited to dig into it. I received a box to review from Hazel Lane in the Spring and started subscribing shortly after. They hooked me!
If you aren’t familiar, Hazel Lane sends a carefully curated box of surprise goodies from that month’s selected city that they think represents its spirit. The idea is to give you an affordable way to explore the world without having to leave your house! Items you can expect to see included are food, drink, clothing, accessories and handcrafted items chosen by locals with the environment, social responsibility and CHICNESS in mind. I subscribe to the “Classic” box which is $47.99/month.
Hazel Lane ships via USPS Priority Mail and arrives towards the end of the month. My box actually came in two shipments this month, which they notified me about in advance. I think they arrived maybe a day apart, so it was no big deal at all. They recently moved to a new distribution center so I understand that they have some kinks to work out.
As usual, everything arrived neatly packaged looked great. Hazel Lane features a lot of independent and woman owned businesses and always notes on the information card which products are from female-founded companies.
The September 2014 Hazel Lane destination was “Charleston, SC” and included the following items:
~Dodeline Card ($3.50): Love this card. It’s perfect for anyone and any reason. It was designed and made in South Carolina by Sarah Reed, who is the founder of Dodeline.
~Pineapple Pillow ($25): I didn’t know this, but the pineapple is the signature symbol of Charleston! This pillow cover was made just for Hazel Lane subscribers by Vintage Affair Studio and I love it. I can’t really explain why I love pineapple prints / art so much. I just do!
~Salt Cellar ($6): I am cracking up because I did not get this at all. I had no idea what a salt cellar was until I googled it. At first I thought it was the name of the company. No. This is a sea shell (from Charleston’s Oyster Point) which can be used to hold salt. That makes much more sense than what I was thinking. In retrospect, I should have flipped it over so you could see the actual bowl part.
~Sangria Bracelet ($10): I totally love this bracelet and can’t believe it’s only $10. I think it would look great alone or in a stack. There are a few different tassel colors to pick from on the site, but I am thrilled with the one I received.
~WildFlour Pastry Granola ($6): If I am ever in Charleston (and I certainly hope I am one day) I will for sure be making a stop here. This granola is yummy and I can only imagine just how delicious the rest of their menu selections are.
All totaled I came up with a value of $50.50 for the September 2014 Hazel Lane Classic Box. I loved this box and thought (as usual) they did a great job curating the box. They always come up with items I had no idea existed, which is one of the reasons I love this box so much!

Ok I didn’t google but is there a reason you would want to put your salt in a sea shell? Does it do something for it or is it just a cute thing to do? Oh and speaking of salt and pepper how do you not use a shaker? What do you put yours in?
