I still can’t believe it, but my November 2014 Birchbox is here. This box is from my “second” Birchbox account (the one I just opened a few months ago) and I seem to get the boxes on this account SO quick. I absolutely love it.
If you aren’t familiar, Birchbox, which is $10/month, offers 4-6 (sometimes more) hand-picked beauty and lifestyle samples, delivered to your door each month. You can review the samples you receive on a monthly basis to earn points in their shop, which makes the “real” cost of the box even less. Points accumulate until you are ready to spend, so you can stockpile and combine with coupon codes and get some complete steals (which I try to do).
Birchbox ships via USPS through Newgistics. My box took three days to arrive this month which was amazing.
Birchbox gave subscribers the option this month to select between the Happy Holiday Hacks BuzzFeed Life + Birchbox collaboration box or the monthly “Giving” themed box. Like I have been doing the last few months I opted for the collaboration box on one of my accounts (this one) and opted for the normal monthly box on my other account.
When I got the e-mail to customize my box for November, the Happy Holidays Hacks box actually was listed as “Sold Out”. If you ever see that and are really hoping for a specific sample choice or one of the special boxes E-MAIL THEM! They manually updated my choice for me without any issues at all. I have heard of plenty of other people doing this with no issues at all either. Anyway, since it is so early in the month there is no way (yet) to browse through and check out all the November boxes, but they should be posted in the next day or so.
The Happy Holiday Hacks BuzzFeed Life + Birchbox included a slew of double-duty products, morning-after saviors and problem solvers – all the beauty hacks you need for a stress-free holiday season. Here is what was inside:
~amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo ($6.75): I love the entire amika line! I think this dry shampoo *might* rival my all time favorite dry shampoo from Suave. It smells amazing too.
~Dr. Jart+ Pore Minimalist Mask ($7.50): This mask took a lot of redness away from my skin for sure. I couldn’t tell too much difference in my pores, but I don’t know that they are too bad right now anyway. Oh and does anyone else think they look super scary in these masks? So creepy.
~Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips ($2.90): The name of this always makes me giggle, but it’s awesome stuff. I use it on my lips, but you can also use it as a skin balm or on your cuticles as well.
~Greenleaf Signature Candle in Silver Spruce ($1.92): This smells so good and every time I sniff it I am in a holiday mood. I love it.
~Mirenessee iCurl Secret Weapon 24hr Mascara ($14.38): The brush on this wand is curved and it gives lashes great length and curl at the same time. It wasn’t clumpy at all and didn’t flake off. Maybe not my favorite mascara ever, but a great one for travel or to throw in your bag.
All totaled I came up with a value of $33.45 for my November 2014 Happy Holiday Hacks Buzzfeed Life + Birchbox. Including the points I get for reviewing the items in the box (10 points per item = 50 points = $5 to spend in the Birchbox Shop) plus the points I get for purchasing the box (*) (10 points = $1), I came up with a total value of $38.45 for this box. I know I mentioned it last month (and the month before that I am sure), but I love these special collaboration boxes they are doing in addition to the regular boxes. So awesome. All these fun samples and I am racking up the points like crazy!

You will LOVE the Amika! I have one that’s almost gone now from Topbox and I’m trying to find it in a store but will have to order online. I’m scent sensitive and it’s great that it doesn’t make me sneeze!
ooh I kinda wish I would have opted for this one now! I’ve decided that I’m officially doing a second account after the holidays–these last couple of months have solidified it! I’m also hoping they’re do some deal where if you buy multiple subs, they’ll have a GREAT gift or give you a good discount. I ordered the limited edition home sweet home, yours looked great!
I notice my 2nd account always ships first and always has better stuff too. This time I ordered the Buzzfeed box with my 1st account but still my 2nd account is about to arrive and 1st hasn’t shipped yet. For your other account do you do the same name, etc.? I used one of my hedgehogs names – maybe they ship by alphabet and she and I are at opposite ends. Also the only difference in my 2 accounts other than name and associated email address is that for the 2nd account I never gave my age, all other answers are the same – so my Zoe of anonymous age gets cool things shipped quickly and I don’t.
Same name. Just different e-mail. They ship based on box numbers I believe!
My holiday hacks box should be here within the next few days and I never get boxes that early! Maybe its because we chose the pre-determined box? After seeing this post, I am so happy that I chose this box this month. I have already tried the Dr. Jart mask (yes, you do look really creepy with it on!) and was eyeing up the new Mirinesse’ stuff online, so this was perfect. I know a lot of people complain about the small samples/foil packets that they receive from BB, but I adore this service. I was subscribed to Ipsy, but found that even though they sent larger items, they were generally lower end and I didn’t end up using them. Plus, you cannot beat BB’s point system!
I just subscribed last month to birchbox. Do you only get to choose a box if you’re a yearly subscriber?
Nope, you should get the e-mail for the sample choice! It came around the 27th of October for the November box.
To what extent can Birchbox be customized? Do they ask whether you wear eyeshadow, etc?
It doesn’t get that specific, but it asks about your skin type, your hair, what types of products you like best, what your skincare concerns are, etc.
The amika brand is my favorite dry shampoo of the various brands I’ve tried (probably have tried about 5 or 6 brands all from subscription boxes) and was one of the main reasons I chose this limited edition box over the normal box. I haven’t tried the Suave version yet… might have to once all my samples run out!
Two things we have in common, our love of Amika and our use of suave dry shampoo. I absolutely affor the Amika nourishing mask and balancing shampoo and just bought a clip less curling wand from them. I use suave dry shampoo all the time. It’s a good Price and works well, but I cannot stand the smell. I go through it so quick that I can’t justify spending more than a few bucks a can, but I opted for this box so I could try the Amika dry shampoo. It probably smells as delicious as their other products! I also like the dr. Lipp too and have gotten it in tr past! I can’t wait to get this box and try everything out.
Opps, I meant to reply to the general post!
I’m still waiting for my box. Does the candle come without a holder? I guess I will have to find one.
