Nerd Block Jr. is a monthly surprise box for kids! It’s is specifically designed for children (you can opt for a Boys Block or a Girls Block) aged 6-11 and is filled with toys and games just for them. They also offer the adult Nerd Block for $29.49/month (that includes shipping), Arcade Block, which is a video game mystery box and Horror Block which is filled with “gruesome horror toys”. This Block is a Boys one for L, who is 6.
Nerd Block ships from Canada and took a little over a week to arrive this month.
The first look was kind of mixed. I knew there would be some good stocking stuffers in there for L, but nothing popped out at me either.
Nerd Block doesn’t include an information card, however, the customs label on the front of the box lists the contents. I always mention it, but the “value” listed doesn’t mean too much, so I wouldn’t pay attention to that. They always list the total value at $13.99 since that is the cost of the box ($13.99 plus shipping) and just randomly divide up the $13.99 between the items. Here is what the November 2014 Nerd Block Jr. (Boy) box included:
~Penguins of Madagascar Comic: This appears to be a Nerd Block exclusive, so I can’t get a price on it. L was just telling me how he was going to see this movie with his Nana, so this will be a cute little tie-in!
~Ironman 3 Hydro Shock Iron Man Figurine ($5.99): L’s room is done in superheros, so this will go well in there. He’s not really big on playing with action figures, but he does like to have them on display.
~CB Micro-Figures: This is for sure a stocking stuffer item. I don’t know if L will really care which one he gets, but with things like these, we like to try and guess what’s inside. I am sure we aren’t the only ones who are feeling those lego packages like these trying to make sure you end up with different characters!
~Desktop Distractions Puzzle Erasers: Totally fun, but for sure more of an at-home item (and not at at-school item). But I do think they are awesome and so does L! It makes homework just a bit more fun.
~Nerd Block Slap Watch: L is always into watches for a month or so and then kid of loses interest. I kind of feel like it’s because it doesn’t really matter to him what time it is yet. Does that make sense?
Since there were a lot of Nerd Block Jr exclusives in here I couldn’t do a cost breakdown on the November box. We liked it well enough and feel like we got our money’s worth, but I think we are going to switch it out for a few months and try a new subscription for L. Not too sure which yet, but there are a few (Tinker Crate being one) that we have been looking at!
