November 2014 Nicky Hilton Fancy Box

My November 2014 Nicky Hilton Fancy Box arrived a bit ago. I was anxious to see what was in it since my November Kelly Rowland box (I haven’t gotten my review done on it yet) was more like a Fancy Mystery Box than a celebrity curated box. It was quite random and I was hoping this was not the same.

Just in case you aren’t familiar, Fancy, which is $39/month (plus shipping), has a “regular” Fancy Box full of cool goodies and celebrity curated boxes which include a collection of the coolest products hand-picked by Nicky Hilton (which is their latest celebrity collaboration) Jennifer Love HewittVerbalKelly RowlandCoco RochaSnoop DoggT-Pain and / or The Rockettes. They also offer a Fancy Food Box (which I love), a Culinary Box and Fancy Mystery Boxes.

Fancy Box ships via FedEx and took the normal two days to get to me.  It left the East Coast on Monday and I received it today (Wednesday).

First Look

The first look was, well, random.  And pretty familiar actually.  I recognized a lot of the items from other Fancy Boxes which I wasn’t overly excited about.  As has been the trends lately, the November 2014 Nicky Hilton Fancy Box didn’t have an information card.  I don’t know  what is going on with Fancy, but is certainly has me curious.

Here is what the November 2014 Nicky Hilton Fancy Box included:

~Cilio Chocolate Fondue Set ($30): I received this set (in red) in the December 2013 Fancy Food Box.  It’s a cute little set and it does work, but I don’t need two.

~Gama Go Cool Pop Spatula ($4.80): The regular price on this is $12, but it’s on sale on Fancy right now for $4.80. I believe I have received this in a few Fancy boxes, with one of them being the October 2013 Jennifer Love Hewitt Box.  I used to have a thing for buying spatulas (so weird I know), so I had a ton of them, but I am over it.  Whoever I give the fondue set to will also get this spatula.  Or maybe I will take them both up-north.

~Tea Duckie Tea Infuser ($6): The regular price on this is $15, but it’s on sale for $6 on Fancy right now.  This is totally cute, but I don’t like tea and I really can’t see B taking this to work and drinking tea with a duck floating in his cup.

~Sweater Mug (~$10): Now this I like!  I received the cup and saucer that matches this in a Fancy box once, but I like this mug better. It’s already in my cupboard.

~Macaroon Trinket Box ($20): I actually received this in the October 2013 Jennifer Love Hewitt box too.  I don’t mind these repeat though because I sent the first one to my friend Stacey.  This is really cute and well made.  And I love the pink.

All totaled I came up with a value of $70.80 for the November 2014 Nicky Hilton Fancy Box.  I liked this box better than my November Kelly Rowland one, but I didn’t think it at all felt like a celebrity curated box.  The number of repeats from previous Fancy Boxes was highly disappointing and so was the fact that a few of the items are “on sale” right now on Fancy.  I have an e-mail into Fancy about this and I will update you when I hear back!

Did you get the November Nicky Hilton Fancy Box?  What’d you think?  Did you have any variations? If you are thinking of ordering this or ANY of the Fancy Boxes, click here and get on it! If you can’t find the Fancy Box you are looking for, I suggest just doing search for “Fancy Box“. It’s much easier than trying to navigate their site and you’ll be able to find all the fancy boxes there, as well as, the Mystery Boxes.

I thought exactly the same thing. I got a different mug, and definitely not one that will add to the professional look of my office: http://fancy.com/things/408600846691992159/Donut-Mug

It just felt like a random collection of stuff. I liked the ducky tea infuser and it will get plenty of use. The other items will be re-gifted.

I pay my $50 in order to see unique items handpicked by the celebrity curator. But I don’t think that is happening. I’ll give them another month, but so far I’ve been pretty disappointed in all my boxes from them.

    1. Jennifer

Totally agree. That is one random mug you got. And it doesn’t even look like it will hold much at all. BOO to this month!

    2. allison

I noticed the donut mug is also 50% off. Definitely seems like they’re trying to get rid of old merchandise in boxes labeled, “celebrity curated.”

I will never subscribe to a Fancy box. I think Fancy just has a list of stuff they already have on hand — almost none of which appeals to me — and make the curators pick from the list (unlike Quarterly, which seems to take input from curators). So you end up with a lot of repeats.

I would hate the spatula. I like spatulas in general, but it would be difficult to use and clean with the “bite” out of it.

    1. Jennifer

It’s actually not bad to use, but yeah, I am not thrilled with getting the same stuff over and over again! Fancy has SO MUCH stuff on their website. They need to branch out!

  3. Beth

The first couple of Nicky Hilton boxes were really good. What happened with this one??

This is why I don’t subscribe to any of the Fancy boxes. It seems like they have a pool of about 50 different items that they pick though to go in their boxes every month. Same things over and over. The only thing missing from this box was some nail decals.

    1. Jennifer

I am cracking up! It is totally missing nail decals! I was seriously expecting a signed copy of her new book or something? Not quite!

      1. Beth

The items aren’t terrible. They’re neat novelty items that most people wouldn’t buy themselves. My thing is, most people subscribe to this box because they want things that Nicky Hilton would pick for herself, but I honestly can’t imagine her owning any of these items herself. I don’t think she is actually curating this box.

        1. Jennifer

Totally! Last month seemed like her. This month? Not at all. My Kelly Rowland box? Not even close. I will try to get that one posted tomorrow!

  4. Iris

I’m getting this box too – it’s set to arrive on Friday! Not super excited about the contents, but maybe I’ll change my mind when it arrives.

    1. Jennifer

I wonder if you will get any variations??

  5. MJ

That stinks about all of the repeats! All though I wouldn’t mind the macaroon trinket box. I use the one I got from the JLH box, but my mine was a brown one. I was thinking about subscribing to her box, but I may wait another month.

    1. Jennifer

Yep, I got the brown one from JLH too. I like this one better!

  6. Barbie

Looks like a bunch of left over girlish products they needed to get rid of for the new year. For the prices they charge.. Id be very disappointed to receive that.

    1. Jennifer

Yep. It’s all so random! No way she picked all this out!

  7. Jennifer Hughes

We are getting Verbal tomorrow hopefully. I will post a review. Honestly I hope it is a bit better than this box. My husband wanted Verbal as a gift and I have looked at past reviews and it is a bit hit or miss with Fancy. I do like the sweater mug though, and the fondue set is cute but I already have one.

    1. Jennifer

I cannot wait to see what you get! I need to get my Kelly Rowland review up. It’s crazier than this!

      1. allison

Yes, I’m anxious to see the KR one, after your description of it. :/

        1. Jennifer

It had two, not one, but two head scratchers….

  8. Lindsay

All the repeats and randomness of items is a huge part of why I cancelled fancy box and switched to quarterly boxes. More often than not this box did not feel like ” nicky hilton” to me.

    1. Jennifer

      Not at all!

  9. Angela

I’m certainly glad I didn’t subscribe to any of the Fancy boxes. It doesn’t feel special when they’re the same things over and over…

    1. Jennifer

Nope, it doesn’t! You are right!

  10. PA Anna

I have mixed feelings about this box. I emailed Fancy after I opened it asking if this was the Nicky Hilton box and if she was still curating it. I’m disappointed in it as a Nicky Hilton box. I don’t understand why we never received her book if it is on the Fancy website.

I do like the box overall. I am looking forward to using the fondue set. I’ve been eyeing a similar macaroon trinket box on BB and the one I received is lavender which is my favorite color. I am really happy about that. My 15 year old claimed the donut mug right away and thinks it is a lot of fun. I can always use a spatula.

Still I want items that makes the box a Nicky Hilton box!!!!

    1. PA Anna

I forgot the duckie. I have loose teas which is perfect for the duckie.

    2. Jennifer

It would have been a nice regular Fancy box, but not a celeb one!

  11. raisin

Fancy boxes have got to be some of the least exciting boxes on the market at this price point. The randomness in each box is just… lol, I don’t even know the word for it.

    1. Jennifer

Randomness is a perfect description of this!

  12. Jenny

I’m going with the other commenters above and say the curated boxes have really gone down hill. I mean I get why you are getting repeats since you get so many different boxes but they don’t fit the person at all. If they fit the person and it was a repeat then I can see it like the macroon holder I can see with both girls but really the others not so much. 🙁

    1. Jennifer

Yep, I can see the macaroon holder. The rest not so much!

  13. Krystyn

Did everyone receive these same items? My box came today and I got the spatula and tea infuser; however I didn’t get the nice fondue set or cute mug or trinket box. Instead, I received an ugly printed mug that was supposed to look like a purse, a set of dinosaur, yes dinosaur cookie cutters and get this, garbage bags! I have never been more shocked or disgusted opening a subscription box, I emailed their customer service immediately and am awaiting a response but there is no way Nicky Hilton picked out dinosaur cookie cutters and garbage bags and for them to say the box is worth over $80! Yeah right! I am unsubscribed from all fancy boxes after this one!

    1. Natasha

Garbage bags!? And dinosaur cookie cutters? That is completely ridiculous.

      1. Krystyn

Yes! I found all the junk in my box on their website and my total value came out to about $32. I am still steaming, I emailed customer service demanding a refund or new box with the correct items. I will not accept this box of crap after spending almost $50.

        1. PA Anna

I’m curious what their response will be. I did receive a response stating that this is the Nicky Hilton box and she and/or her team approved the items.

        2. Jennifer

Garbage bags? What on earth! I can only wonder what they were thinking this month!

    2. Jennifer

I don’t know if everyone got the same stuff? I couldn’t find any on Instagram to see!

    3. Angie

Yes! I just got my NH fancy box and got the same things as Krystyn! Handbag mug, ducky tea infuser, spatula, dinosaur cookie cutters and garbage bags. What the heck?!?! I just don’t understand what’s happening here. I would have actually been pleased (a little) with the fondue set. I’d much rather have that than garbage bags. Very, very disappointed.

      1. Jennifer

It makes no sense really because I already got the fondue set too!

      2. Krystyn

I emailed their customer service and they replied saying that each box was to contain the fondue set, macaroon trinket box, tea infuser, spatula and either a sweater or donut mug. I sent them a pic of the junk in my box and the invoice, I found the things in my box on their website and the total cost is only $32. Per their item description it states the box should have $80+ worth of products, I am demanding a refund or the correct items, they are not ripping me off. If customer service does not respond via email, I will be calling them.

  14. Iris

Just got home and opened my box… exact same items as you, except my macaroon was green.

    Eh. :/

  15. Judy

I received the macaroon in green before. Definitely would have preferred a different color like lavender!

  16. Plume de Corbeau

Did anyone else get the December box? I got a pillow, a b?ret and postcards. I’m disappointed, but my biggest disappointment is that I, along with other people, expressed how I felt about the box on the fancy website under the Nicky Hilton box, and fancy deleted all of our comments. When I shop for a box, I want to see the bad and the good comments, and I feel like it is very dishonest on their part.
