December 2014 Birchbox

Yay! My December 2014 Birchbox is here! It’s the first of my two Birchbox subscriptions to arrive this month and I couldn’t wait to get it in the house!

If you aren’t familiar, Birchbox, which is $10/month, offers 4-6 (sometimes more) hand-picked beauty and lifestyle samples, delivered to your door each month. You can review the samples you receive on a monthly basis to earn points in their shop, which makes the “real” cost of the box even less. Points accumulate until you are ready to spend, so you can stockpile and combine with coupon codes and get some complete steals (which I try to do).

The Box

Birchbox ships via Newgestics and took just a few days to arrive.  WB spotted the mailman at the mailbox and we ran out there to greet him (WB’s idea) and then he carried my Birchbox in the house for me.  So sweet!

The Birchbox

How fun is this Birchbox?  I love it!  I don’t save too many of my Birchbox boxes anymore, but I will be saving this one for something.  Not sure what, but it’s too cute to throw away.

First Look

I received Box #17 (*) this month which I think was a pretty darn good box. I opted for the Guest Editor box on one account and then selected a sample for this one.

The Information Card

The December 2014 Birchbox theme was “Decked Out” and included the following festive beauty samples (and also a $10 GAP.com coupon which you can obtain online):

~Davines Replumping Superactive (plus bonus Shampoo & Conditioner) ($19.75): Not only did Birchbox send this awesome hair treatment, we also got the shampoo and conditioner packets!  I really liked how the spray smelled and thought it not only make my hair feel shiny, but it gave it more volume as well.  Great stuff.

~English Laundry Signature for Her (~$3): This has a bit of a different smell.  A good different smell.  It’s more woodsy than floral and is very unique.  I don’t know that I will get the full-sized one, but I will use this up.

~Mirenesse Mattify Lip Rouge in Sydney ($7.04): Love the packaging on this lip gloss!  The gloss itself is fantastic too.  It’s a fun party color and I think it’s super pretty.

~Royal Apothic Cuppa Cuppa Firming Tea Treatment Mask ($9.67): Yay!  I received this in my other Birchbox box (on my other account) last month and am thrilled to see it in this box as well.  It’s a fabulous mask and I wouldn’t be sad if I got it every month in a box.

~W3LL Bio Brightener Stick (~$10): I can so see why this is a cult favorite. It’s awesome.  I tried it alone and it did leave me “glowing”, but you can use it over foundation too. I will be buying the full size for sure.

All totaled I came up with an (estimated) value of $49.46 for my Decmeber 2014 Birchbox!  Including the points I get for purchasing the box (**) and the points I get for reviewing the products (7 products = 70 points = $7 Birchbox dollars), I came up with a total value of $57.46!  This is an AWESOME box and I am thrilled!

Do you subscribe to Birchbox? Did you get your box yet this month? What number was it and what was in it?  If you don’t subscribe (it’s only $10/month) and are interested in learning more, click here.  If you are purchasing a gift subscription, you can use the coupon code “WSNOWPACK” with any gift subscription purchase of $60 to get a free “Snowed in” sample pack containing 4 samples!.

(*) If you want to see all the boxes this month, click here and change the 1 at the end to anything from a 1 to 54 since there were 54 (in comparison, last month there were 49 box variations) box variations this month.  I can’t figure out how you can tell which Box # you are receiving anymore without going through all the boxes, so if anyone knows I would love to hear!
(**) You only get points for purchasing the box if you buy an annual subscription (or 3-month, 6-months, etc.). You don’t get points if you are on a month to month subscription.

I’d love to hear if you’re able to review all 7 products for 70 pts. Mine is only letting me earn 50 as a max. this month.

This looks like a great box! This is one of those times I wish I had 2 accounts. I picked the curated box this time.

I got Ruffian nail polish in red, the Davines hair items you got, I selected the Vasanti eyeliner in rose gold, SeaRX Anti-Wrinkle Facial Lift Treatment Serum and Manna Kadar Lip Locked.

Are you doing something different when you take photos? Looks nice, would love to know what’s different or if you got a special background?

I was getting bored with the same background of my counter and then my black kitchen table, so I have been using white poster board. Nothing fancy! And I always use my iPhone for pictures!

I only subscribe month to month, I review my samples and I receive points. I read what you wrote on your birchbox posts, that month to month can’t earn points. I signed up for birchbox after following your blog for a few months. You’re very knowledgeable about how these subscription services work. So for the first 3 months of my subscription I didn’t bother to review anything, and then I called birchbox one day because they messed up one of my boxes and they asked my why I wasn’t doing the reviews and earning points??? I said that I thought you could only earn points if you pay for more than month to month and they told me I was wrong. So I was pretty bummed, missed out on earning $15/3 birchboxes worth…. I am not blaming you at all, because I’m grown and should have done a better job at understanding what birchbox is and how the points worked. Who knows, maybe they changed it recently?

I’m sorry for the confusing! You only get the points for purchasing the box itself if you get a 3 month or longer subscription. So if I buy a year in advance I get 100 extra points for paying in advance. I don’t get 10 extra points per month for my month to month sub for the $10 I pay for the box itself. It’s confusing but you can certainly get your review points on month to month subscriptions!
