December 2014 Hazel Lane

It’s been a bit of a long day around here (my two little ones are a bit under the weather), so I was super super to open up my December 2014 Hazel Lane box!

If you aren’t familiar, Hazel Lane sends a carefully curated box of surprise goodies from that month’s selected city that they think represents its spirit.  The idea is to give you an affordable way to explore the world without having to leave your house!  Items you can expect to see included are food, drink, clothing, accessories and handcrafted items chosen by locals with the environment, social responsibility and CHICNESS in mind. I subscribe to the “Classic” box which is $46.99/month.

First Look

The first look was so bright and fun.  I don’t remember ever seeing so much color in a Hazel Lane box and I loved it!

The Information Card

The December 2014 Hazel Lane destination was “Hawaii” and included the following finds:

~Surfer Salve ($5): This salve is made in Hawaii with all-natural ingredients.  I tested it right away and I think I have found a new favorite. It’s a great lip balm and also works on those dry patches that seem to pop-up in the winter.

~Coconut Floater Candle ($9.50): So not only does this smell amazing, but it also floats!  I am imagining this in the bathtub, but I would probably turn the jets on and make it go out (or worse), so I should probably figure out a new plan.

~Kauai Coconut Kona Coffee Pecans & Macadamia Nuts ($6): These are going to be a B item.  They smell good, but that combination of items just isn’t very me.

~Zenziva Body Scrub ($12): I absolutely cannot wait to use this!  It’s made from coffee and sugar (and of course chocolate) and if you can, they suggest using it on the beach. That’s not going to happen in Michigan in December, so my shower will have to do.

~Pin Buttons ($6): Very cute and I am going to pin them on some of my tote bags and luggage as they suggest.  I could use a little Aloha everywhere I go.

~Gypsy Photography Piece ($12): I don’t know exactly where I am going to put this, but the colors on it are so vivid and beautiful.

All totaled I came up with a value of $50.50 for the December 2014 Hazel Lane box.  I felt like they did a great job bringing a little Hawaii to me and I know for sure that if I were visiting Hawaii, I would have left with that scrub, surfer’s salve and floating candle on my own!

I subscribed for one month once I heard this month would be Hawaii-themed. I opted for the Deluxe Box. Everything was the same, except instead of the surfer’s salve (which I really hoped would also be in my box!) I got a gold shark tooth necklace. Value $83.50 + shipping. -D

Too bad you didn’t get the Surfer’s Salve too!

This looks way better than the box that escape monthly put together. This review makes me tempted to subscribe.

I really like them! They come up with a lot of great things and they have amazing taste!

You could fill a small bowl with water and use the floating candle and bowl as a decoration in the hall or on your dining room table

Something like this is what Escape Monthly should have done! I subbed to Escape for two months (Paris and Puerto Rico) for both the regular and mini, and canceled cause the value wasn’t there. I also bought the summer Limited Edition Escape box (love loved loved it!), that had that Hawaiian eye cream. It also ended up being in the normal Hawaii box, and then AGAIN in the winter special edition box! Jeez, they must have had SO MUCH of that stuff! I liked the winter box again, do I decided at least for Escape, I’ll only go for the special boxes.

This is totally what they should have done!

has anyone else tried to go on the hazel lane site, only to find it’s been down for the last couple of days?

    1. theramblingjen

I had this issue too. For whatever reason the first result in the google search wasn’t working?? This link works though:

  7. I absolutely love Hazel Lane and I couldn’t wait for the Hawaii box! I just picked it up from my post office box and was not disappointed. The products that Ash & Sam find to include in the boxes are amazing and truly represent the places they are featuring. I can’t wait to use the scrub and burn the candle!

      They have such great taste!
