PetBox, who kindly sent me this (Premium) box to review, is a monthly subscription box for pets (dogs or cats) that allows you to select what items you wish to receive in your box!  They are (I believe) the only pet box out there that allows you to do this. You can opt to select your own items for the month or you can opt for a “Surprise Me” box where PetBox will hand-select items for you. You can opt for a dog box, a cat box, or a combination dog / cat box. I receive the “Surprise Me” Premium Dog Box to review on a monthly basis.

PetBox ships via FedEx Smart Post and took just under a week to arrive to me.

First Look

Just like last month, the December PetBox was packed full of items!  I receive the surprise option I never know what to expect from PetBox since they select your items for you.  If you opt to select your own items you are allotted 800 points (usually 4-6 items) and are able to “shop” with your points (items are assigned point values in the store). Here is what I received in the surprise option:

~PawGanics Toy Cleaner ($8.49): I will typically just throw my dog toys in the dishwasher, but if I didn’t have one, I would use this spray cleaner.  Please tell me someone else uses their dishwasher for all this kind of stuff?  I used to wash baby toys in it and still use it for hats, flip-flops, you name it!

~Merrick Lil’ Brush Bones ($11.67): This is exactly what my dogs need!  I am going to wrap these up for them for Christmas! They’ll like them and their teeth will thank me.

~Spot Treat Ball ($4.80): I think these are so fun, but my dogs just flat out do not get it.  They try and try but never seem to be able to get the treats out.  So I will pass this one along to my brother’s dogs who will do get it!

~Puppy on Board Sign ($7.75): There have been times lately where I have actually considered getting a puppy.  And then I realize that Baxter is still not over the fact that we added Buddy to the mix all those years ago, so that’s not happening!

~Sadie’s Sweet Pawtato Chips (120 points) ($2): These are made with 100% sweet potatoes.  That’s it!  And the dogs loved them!

~Jingle Jangle P-Nuttier Treats (120 points) ($2.79): These are being saved for Christmas morning for the dogs!  L made them both Christmas lists and sent them to Santa, so I gotta make sure that they get some great stuff too!

~Flingball ($7.99): This is the most perfect toy for the dogs down the street.  They love to play fetch and are obsessed with tennis balls, but they get so slimy and gross that you don’t really want to toss it for them.  But this takes away that problem.  Baxter and Buddy are going to gift this to them for Christmas!

All totaled I came up with a value of $45.49 for the December 2014 Surprise PetBox!  It’s right around the cost of the box, but if you purchase a longer subscription, the price drops.

I have the Petbox snack box for each of my dogs, I got the 3 months for $9. Looking at it, I actually think you get 4 shipments. Anyway, I have to say I love it, it is something fun and cute for them every month, and they always seem to send a toy with it. I will note that not all the toys have held up, but my dogs are rough. It actually has me thinking about seeing if they have a tough chewer option like BarkBox when the snack boxes expire.

I got the Petbox snack box, too, same deal. I let them pack the box and I think I get a better value that way. Plus I get to try some things that never would have occurred to me to try. My dog has gotten two toys and has destroyed them both (but she LOVED them). I wish they had more categories for large dogs, though — this is a complaint for all dog boxes. My dog weighs 95 pounds which is almost twice the 50 pound minimum for “large” boxes. Toys that are appropriate for a 50 pound dog are not necessarily appropriate for a 95 pound dog.

I do think it’s a better value if you let them pack it!

What kind of dog do you have again? Post a picture!

She’s a Rottweiler. I always forget you can post photos now. Here’s one (I think it’s kind of old, but I think it’s cute when she rolls around on her back):
