The Doodle Crate I ordered last week arrived bright and early on my porch this morning! And I was so excited about it that I worked on it right away!
If you aren’t familiar with Doodle Crate, they are one of the new lines in the Kiwi Crate family. Designed for girls ages 9-16, Doodle Crate includes all the materials and inspiration for DIY projects such as patterned pouches, friendship bracelets, or colorful candles. Crates encourage girls to tackle new challenges and gain creative confidence!
Doodle Crate ships via FedEx Smart Post and generally takes about a week to arrive to me. However, as soon as you order by 11:59pm PST on 12.19.14 (aka this Friday), they will guarantee delivery by 12.24.14 for those in the continental United States!
Doodle Crate has been around for a few months now and I’d seen a few boxes, but I wasn’t sure which one I would received. I’d seen a candle making one and a canvas pouch one and either would have worked for me.
My December 2014 Doodle Crate project was “Painted Canvas Pouches”! Yay! The kit included all the materials needed to learn two new techniques “Paint Resist” and “Pom Pom Making”.
I found the instructions to be very clear and easy to follow. They are written for 9-16 year-olds, so I guess that explains why. But for real, these Doodle Crate projects are just about my craft speed. Nothing to difficult or frustrating and you end up with a cute usable item!
The Project
I decided to do one of my pouches in a geometric pattern and did (well tried for ) a fun IKAT inspired pattern on the other. Everything worked exactly as it should have. The paint’s consistency was perfect and it took to the canvas quite well.
I must say, I am quite happy with how they turned out! I might go back and paint the IKAT one a bit more (like fill in the non-painted space with a light purple), but I’m so using these! The pom-poms were easy to make with yarn, although if I did it again I would use something larger than fork (which is what is recommended in the instructions) so my pom-poms would be larger.
Notebook
Unlike Koala Crate and Kiwi Crate, Doodle Crate doesn’t include an Activity Book. This box had a nice blank notebook and fun pen to doodle in, jot down idea or whatever!
Bonus Gift
It was clearly my lucky day because my Doodle Crate also included a bonus gift! It was a fuzzy pencil case by yoobi who partnered with Doodle Crate this month! I know they sell this brand at Target and for every item you buy yoobi donates an item to a classroom in need!
I absolutely loved my Doodle Crate. Like I loved it. So much so that I am going to keep this subscription for myself. I had a great time just painting the pouches and wasn’t stressed at all about how it would turn out which I loved!
