Try the World Holiday Box

Try The World, who kindly sent me this box to review, is a bi-monthly subscription box that allows you to try products from around the world without leaving your house.  Their team of travelers and local experts curates a collection of products that best represent each country / city.  The first box starts in Paris and then boxes move to Toyoko, Rio and other cities around the globe.  Boxes include not only delicious gourmet finds but also a companion on the history of the products and how to use them.

The box I received for review is their Limited Edition Holiday Box.  It’s $50 and is a one-time purchase box and includes winter culinary traditions from different countries.

The Box

The Try the World Holiday Box shipped in a plain brown box, but inside was this gorgeous box. It’s  totally read for gift giving and you wouldn’t even have to wrap it.

The box included a Holiday Culture Guide and was packed full of items.  I was excited to dig through everything and see what was inside!

The Try the World Holiday Box included the following items:

~Urbani Tartufi Truffle Products: I have tried the chocolates and, just as expected, they are fabulous.  I do not believe B has used the black truffle oil yet, but we’ll find something fancy to make with it.

~La Palais Des Thes Fine Teas: As you know I don’t love tea, but my cousin loves it and is coming down to visit soon.  These teas can be enjoyed hot or cold and use “warm spices and winter fruits”.

~Rip van Wafels Traditional Dutch Waffes: Love these.  I have loved the traditional wafel since the first time I tried it, but I have never tried the Cocoa Filled one before.  In fact, I didn’t even know it existed.  I do now though!

~Mini Doce De Leite Milky Spread Gift Pack: I am still not sure about these.  LOL!  They are okay, but I am just not sure if I love them.  Or if I want to have them on my ice cream, toast, etc.  They aren’t like Nutella or peanut butter or anything that I want to eat off the spoon.

~Anna’s Pepparkakor Ginger Cookies: These are described as Scandinavian’s take on a gingersnap.  I actually liked them better than gingersnaps though.  These are thinner and pretty good.

~Les Confitures A L’Ancienne Hot Chocolate Powder: I have gotten this in a box or two in the past and it is amazing hot chocolate.  So so good. I might have to have some tonight after L’s conferences.

~Favarger Chocolates: This chocolate is made in Switzerland and is amazing.  I cracked into it as soon as I finished up taking all these pictures last week and really liked it.  Super good!

~HazerBaba Turkish Delight with Pistachio: Every box comes with a Mystery Treat and this one was mine. I just don’t know about this one though!  I am hoping that one of you can shed some light on this for me.  What exactly is all happening here?

I didn’t do a cost breakdown on this box, but it works out to be $6.25/item which I don’t think is outrageous.  I don’t know quite where I would get some of these items around here and while I didn’t love everything, it certainly is fun to try it!

What do you think of Try the World?  For a limited time you can get a free Holiday Box (aka this box) with the purchase of a new subscription. When that offer expires (and I am not sure of an exact expiration date) you can use coupon code “SUBURBANMOM50” to save 30% off your first month!

It’s a confectionery you find in Turkey (and other countries around it). I’ve been to big stores where they have many different kinds of flavors and you can get a mixed bag of it, but pistachio was my favorite!

  2. Dani

my husband brings them back from Turkey about once a year. at first I wasn’t sure about then but they’ve definitely grown on me. they are pretty tasty.

We get them when we go to Turkey too, but you can find them at lots of stores… They’re like soft gummy candies, dusted with powdered sugar, and Hazarbaba is a good brand. Really yummy, and I’m guessing your kiddos will love them! (More recently, they also started making Turkish delight that is covered in chocolate, which (as you can imagine) is even better:)

You can score many of these items at World Market
    and make your own boxes!

For me, at least, the point of getting a box is so I don’t have to go to the store.

      1. Ray

The point of getting a box is that I don’t have to drive at least two hours to get to a store that would have ALL these items (like World Market), or two hours driving around the small city where I live to find them at at four or five different stores (if they even exist).

I was referring to her comment “I wouldn’t know where to get these things around here”. I fully comprehend how sub boxes work but if you really like something in a box (Turkish Delight for instance) it’s nice to know where you can acquire it. Are all your goods and services delivered to you?

        1. Amy

I’m sorry, I didn’t realize you were replying to her about where to get the items and misunderstood your “make your own boxes” comment.

You can get the Anna’s cookies at Walgreens too, different flavors…..pretty good!

Are the spreads really thick? I was thinking you could stir it into a coffee? Or into a shot of espresso, add milk, and make an iced latte? I use sweeten condensed milk to do that and those spreads kind of looked like that!

  6. I didn’t get a mystery treat. or hot chocolate. or the caramel spreads. instead i got some chocolate mint sticks and a giant flipping bag of herbs de provence.

I received my box today! Here’s what I got: Anna’s cookies, Maison d’armorine salted caramel chocolate, one white truffle chocolate with the truffle oil, the favarger Swiss chocolate, 2 Rip van wafels, les palais de thes and the brigadeiro spread. I’m soooo happy I didn’t get the herbs. Sorry Brandy! A little chocolate heavy, but hey I love chocolate. I’m probably going to buy more of the white truffle chocolates. I also emailed the team to ask when we would receive the Paris box.
