One of my February 2015 Birchbox boxes arrived over the weekend! I have have been receiving Birchbox for years, but last fall during an amazing Birchbox subscription sale I picked up another annual subscription. It turns out to be a good thing because it was at that exact time that Birchbox began to offer their Guest Editor boxes. So now I can get the “regular” Birchbox on one account and the Guest Editor box on the second. This review is on the February 2015 “regular” box.
If you aren’t familiar, Birchbox, which is $10/month, offers 4-6 (sometimes more) hand-picked beauty and lifestyle samples, delivered to your door each month. You can review the samples you receive on a monthly basis to earn points in their shop, which makes the “real” cost of the box even less. Points accumulate until you are ready to spend, so you can stockpile and combine with coupon codes and get some complete steals (which I try to do).
Birchbox ships via Newgistics (it’s delivered by the Post Office) and took just three days to arrive to me.
I mentioned it last month too, but Birchbox announced in their January sneak peek video that all of the boxes this year will be fun new designs and that we should save them because they are going to have some ideas on how to use them down the road. I personally think they should make a series of coffee mugs to match that month’s box. I’d so buy that!
I peeked at my account through this link (Birchbox warned subscribers on their Facebook that these previews were subject to change before the 10th but mine was right on) a few days ago and was kind of meh on it. The sizes in the first look were pretty good though.
The February 2015 Birchbox theme was “Friendship” and was all about celebrating those who cheer us on, calm us down and make us laugh. Here is what my box – Box #51 (*) this month:
~Juicy Couture Hollywood Royal ($0.95): Oh I love this! I have always liked Juicy scents and I think is my new favorite from them. It’s described as a “delicious blend of candied apple, juicy pear, jasmine, and gardenia with a hint of marshmallow and vanilla”. I am pretty sure I know what I want for Valentine’s Day ;).
~theBalm Cosmetics Read My Lips Lip Gloss (BAM! Rose Pink) ($4): I love the color I received and thought the formula was smooth and creamy – not sticky at all. theBalm makes great products and has such fun packaging.
~Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant ($6.50): So far so good with this one. I haven’t been using it long enough to see a giant difference, but my skin does feel a lot cleaner after I use it. I am going to try and use this consistently until it’s gone because I am hearing that this one could be a gamer changer!
~Gilchrist & Soames London Collection Shower Gel ($2): I’m just meh on this on. I can’t figure out exactly what it smells like (I kind of get almonds from it, but who knows?), but it really reminds me of a hotel freebie. A really nice hotel freebie and one that I would be thrilled to get at a hotel, but in my Birchbox I am not as excited about it.
~Parlor by Jeff Chastain Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray ($4.90): This was my Sample Choice selection this month. I am a huge fan of sea salt sprays so when I saw this I knew I had to try it. I found this to be a lot different than most of the sea salt sprays I have tried. It left my hair feeling soft, but still gave it some nice texture. I’m not sure if I will end up switching to this or not, but I will use the bottle up and decide.
All totaled I came up with a value of $18.35 for my February 2015 Birchbox. Including the points I get for purchasing the box (10 points = $1 to spend at Birchbox) and reviewing / sharing the items in the box (60 points = $6), the value increases to $25.35. While I liked the box more in person than I did in the sneak peek, I didn’t love it. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t super good either. Just kind of there.
Have you gotten your Birchbox yet this month? What’d you get? If you are interested in subscribing I believe you can still use coupon code “BBSTORE100” to get 100 extra Birchbox points (which is equal to $10 to spend in the Shop) with any subscription purchase.
(*) If you want to check out all the boxes this month, go here and change the #1 at the end (instead of “february-2015-bb1”, it’d be “february-2015-bb2”, “february-2015-bb3”, etc.) to anywhere between 2 and 61 since there were 61 different box varieties this month.
