WB’s February 2015 Koala Crate arrived over the weekend and since going outside and playing isn’t exactly an option right now (way too cold), we worked on it this afternoon.
If you aren’t familiar, Koala Crate is from Kiwi Crate’s new line of crates. It’s designed for preschoolers ages 3-4 and includes all the materials and inspiration for projects related to a theme such as colors, transportation or safari. Crates are designed to give children exposure to new materials and new concepts that encourage hands-on learning and fun.
Koala Crate ships via FedEx Smart Post and took over a week to arrive. Unlike Kiwi Crate and Doodle Crate, my Koala Crate wasn’t delayed because of port problems this month.
As usual the box was perfectly packaged and everything was included. Koala Crate and Kiwi Crate have a lot of little pieces to them, but they are always all there.
The February 2015 Koala Crate theme was “friendship & feelings” and included the following projects:
Project #1 – Finger Puppets
The first project we worked on was “feelings puppets” and included everything needed to make faces that show different feelings. It was low on the messiness scale, high on the grownup involvement scale and involved creating and caring.
L “got” this much more so than WB did. He didn’t really understand that we were making the faces to show feelings. He was more than willing (and excited) to make a face, but he didn’t get that the face was showing a feeling. He understands his own feelings and tells me he’s happy or sad, but we need to work on other people’s feelings.
Project #2 – Funny Face Game
The second project was “funny face game” which included all of the items to create a bunch of funny faces and play a silly game. It was low on the messiness scale, low on the grownup involvement scale and involved “caring” and “communicating”.
The boys certainly did make some silly faces with this game! I think WB’s ended up with 4 mustaches, even though that wasn’t even a choice on the spinner ;). The game also included a felt envelope so you could easily store everything. I thought that was a fabulous idea. Very thoughtful.
Project #3 – Friendship Bracelets
The final project in the box was “friendship bracelets” and included all of the materials needed to make beaded bracelets to give to your friends. It was medium on the messiness scale, medium on the grownup involvement scale and involved “creating” and “moving – fine”.
Our “beads” haven’t fully dried yet, but you get the idea! I think we *may* have made them a little too big. It’s more of a statement piece than a friendship bracelet, but that’s okay!
Just like Kiwi Crate has their explore! magazine, Koala Crate has imagine! “imagine!” includes stories, mazes and other fun activities relating to the theme. They come in very handy at restaurants and in waiting rooms. And on long car trips!
What do you think of Koala Crate? If you subscribe do you enjoy it as much as WB and I did? If you are interested in subscribing you can sign up here and use the coupon code “GOODSHOPGIFT” to save $10 off your first box!
This is not the one I got. Mine was a Colors theme. It seems like you reviews the Colors box awhile back didn’t you. I tried to do a search for it but the searchs on your website are much harder than they used to be. It takes pages and pages to scroll back to older posts.
Yeah, I don’t really get why it pulls up individual pictures. I need to fix that. Anyway, I believe that “Colors” is the first Koala Crate box. I think everyone starts their subscription with that one??
