Birchbox Man March 2015 Subscription Box – “Better Basics”

B’s March 2015 Birchbox Man box has finally arrived!  His original box ended up getting lost (and is still out there..somewhere) so I contacted the Birchbox customer service and they sent us out a replacement.

If you aren’t familiar, Birchbox Man is $20/month and sends you monthly deliveries of deluxe grooming and lifestyle samples, tailored to your profile. With Birchbox Man you can try cult brands, up-and-coming lines, and everything in between.

The Box

Birchbox Man ships via USPS (through Newgistics).  Generally the boxes arrive the first few days of the month.  About a week after I received the tracking I started to wonder what happened to ours, but gave it an additional week before I contacted customer service.  Birchbox has great customer service and they shipped me a replacement box right away.

We had originally selected the specially curated “Better Basics” box for March, but when you get a replacement box from Birchbox you aren’t guaranteed the same box (they may not have all the items in stock).  However, they did in this case so we received our originally selected box!

First Look

Birchbox Man has been allowing subscribers to pick their lifestyle item for the past few months now.  There were a variety of choices this month including a Bison Made Double Wrap Bracelet ($40), a Barebands Watch ($39) or an Izola Be Brave & True Pocket Knife ($18).  Subscribers were also able to select a preset “Better Basics Box” which, as I previously mentioned, is the one we opted for.

The Information Card

The March 2015 Birchbox Man Better Basics Box included the following building blocks that help ordinary guys become legends:

Billy Jealousy Hydroplane Super Slick Shave Cream ($2.50): B’s a big fan of this line and he actually just got this in his Birchbox last month.  He knew it was going to be in this one though and didn’t mind getting it again.  Had we opted for anything other than this curated box he wouldn’t have gotten this product again.  But since it was a curated box (i.e. everyone gets the same items) they don’t do any substitutes for repeats.

~Lab Series Daily Moisture Defense Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF15 ($6.47): Lab Series is another great brand and I love that this has SPF in it.  B spends a lot of time outside when he’s at National Guard and having a built in SPF will be awesome.

~Rusk Hair Paste ($6.75): This is another duplicate for us, but again, it’s a great product so we didn’t mind at all.  I stole the last one of these for L, but that’s gone now, so I am going to snag this one for him too!

~Alternative Grey Crew T-Shirt ($30): Love.  We originally got this shirt back in November and B loves his.  It’s soft and stretchy and I think he looks great in it.  The shirt washes up perfectly and it really is a wardrobe essential.

All totaled I came up with a value of $45.72 for the March 2015 Birchbox Man. Including the points for purchasing the box (20 points = $2) and the points for reviewing the products / sharing on Facebook (50 points = $5), the real value of this box is $52.75.  I should point out that since we have already received three of these products we don’t be able to do additional reviews for points on them.  That is the only down side to getting a curated box with repeats, but we liked this box so much we didn’t even mind!
