Our February 2015 Kiwi Crate has (finally) arrived! It was super delayed because of port problems on the West Coast, but it made it!
If you aren’t familiar, Kiwi Crate boxes are designed around fun themes and filled with all of the materials and inspiration for hands-on projects for kids ages 3-7. L and I have been doing the projects together for years and every now and then (like this month), WB gets in on the action!
Kiwi Crate ships via FedEx Smart Post and, once it shipped, took over a week to arrive this month. As I mentioned it was delayed because of issues with the port strike. Kiwi Crate sent out e-mails about the delays and also delayed March billings because of the issue. I thought they handled it as well as could be expected.
All I knew about this month’s box was the theme. I didn’t know the individual projects until I opened it it. WB and I worked on it this afternoon while the big boys were getting haircuts.
The February 2015 Kiwi Crate theme was “play sports” and included the following two projects:
Project #1 – “my pom-pom soccer”
My pom-pom soccer, which WB decided we should work on first, included all of the materials to build your own stadium and play pom-pom soccer. It was low on the messiness scale, medium on the grownup involvement scale and involved “exploring”, “creating” and “moving”.
WB’s favorite part of this one was stringing the beads on the soccer net. OMG, he was so into it. And so serious about it.
We loved building this one, but WB didn’t really “get” how to play soccer. He’s a little young for this though, so that’s understandable. L understood it much better and was quite happy to beat me at it.
Project #2 – “my basketball game”
My Basketball Game included everything needed to decorate a basketball hoop and play a fun game. It was high on the messiness scale, medium on the grownup involvement scale and involved “creating”, “exploring” and “moving – gross”.
WB was super excited when he saw the paint for this project. WB is really into painting right now and couldn’t wait to get that blue paint open. I did most of this one and WB painted ;).
Both of the boys love the finished project and we have it hanging in our kitchen right now. Although we have a zillion balls, they like to fight about THIS one. I think that’s what brothers are supposed to do though, so it’s not a big deal.
The explore! magazine includes puzzles, games, stories and additional activities relating to the theme. We haven’t had too much time to explore it yet (see what I did there – lol), but we will!
I don’t think we loved this month quite as much as January (which was the Baking one), but this was a good month too. I haven’t seen the theme for March yet, but I’ll update the Spoilers tab when I find out what it is.
