RawSpiceBar January 2015

RawSpiceBar, who kindly sent me this package to review, sends 3-4 hand-picked, small batch, freshly ground spice blends with each monthly box. Each of the blends weigh about 0.5 ounces, which allows you to create a single dish feeding approximately 12-14 people. You will also receive kitchen-tested, detailed recipes and ideas for each spice blend you receive as well as fun gifts and stories about the history and origins of each blend every month.

They use the prettiest papers to wrap their spices up in!  I love it!

The Information Card

The January 2015 RawSpiceBar (I’m a little behind on this one) features the following spices from Albuquerque, New Mexico:

~Juniper Berries Blend: This is a blend of cinnamon, cloves, star anise, allspice, juniper berries and orange peel.  The recipe included with this one is for Poached Apples & Juniper Berries, which I bet smell incredible!

~Posole Spices and Ground Chiles: The recipe for these spices is for a Navajo Posole, which is a light brothed, deeply flavorful and moderately spicy stew.   It looks delicious on the RawSpiceBar website and since it’s STILL winter here, we have plenty of time to enjoy this cold weather meal.

~Sumac & Herbs: The recipe included for these spices is for a Sumac Flatbreads which would go great with the Navajo Posole above!  The spices are a combination of rosemary, sage, Mexican oregano, fennel, black peppercorns, garlic, cinnamon and sumac. I need to add bread flour to my grocery list and get making these!

I didn’t (couldn’t) do a cost breakdown on this package, but I am loving RawSpiceBar.  We don’t have any spice markets near us (or if we do I don’t know about it), so this is an awesome way to try new spices and it’s even better that they include recipes for you.

What do you think of RawSpiceBar? If you are interested in subscribing or just want to learn more, you can head on over to their website and check them out.
