Citrus Lane is a monthly subscription box for babies from 0 to 5 years old which contains four or more products selected especially for the age and stage of your child. Citrus Lane is $29/month, but they always have great coupon codes that let you try them out very inexpensively. I receive a box for WB (boy) who just turned 3 and a box for a 5 year-old boy as well. They were exactly the same this month (they were the exact same last month as well) so I am only going to do one review.
Citrus Lane ships via FedEx Smart Post and took about a week to arrive. I generally receive my box between the 15th and 20th of the month. This month’s box(es) didn’t arrive until the 22nd. I think it shipped a bit after everyone else’s for some reason.
Not a bad first look. WB was next to me when I was unboxing everything today and he could not wait to get his hands on those cars.
The April 2015 Citrus Lane box is all about celebrating Earth Day with fun and creativity. Here is what was included:
~Mini Fastbacks from Green Toys ($9): WB loves these. He snatched them up right away and ran off to play with them. When we opened the second box and saw the same set of cars I wasn’t overly excited, but boy he certainly was. MORE CARS! Green Toys are made out of recycled milk jugs which is super cool and they are free of BPA, PVC, phthalates and coatings.
~Wonderful Words from Barefoot Books ($9.99): This was a custom item just for Citrus Lane. Well, the format was customized. It’s a fun and very engaging book and we love it. I would love to see books from some different publishers here and there though. We get a lot of Barefoot Books.
~Dino Lacing Cards from Stephen Joseph ($9.95): I think the entire family needs to sit down and work on these. I remember trying to show L how to do it and it took me a minute to get it again. LOL! These are a good item to grow with WB. He can only do a few now, but as he gets older he’ll be able to lace the entire card.
~Whole Grain Cookie from My Super Cookie (~$1): Totally tasty. WB and I both sampled these and we are fans. Kind of like a fancy animal cracker.
All totaled I came up with a value of $29.94 for the April 2015 Citrus Lane box. That’s right around where they have been lately value wise (maybe a little lower than normal), but since I have an extended subscription I pay only $19/month for the box. They always put together a box with great products / brands, but I wish we’d see some new brands and products from them. Lately it’s been a lot of the same core brands and I would love to see some fresh stuff!

My son got the same box (he’s 4) and loved it! This was our first one in years so we got the 40% off and free Skip Hop set so this box was a complete win for us! We read the book last night and he loved naming the different items. We will most definitely be keeping this one!
I got a girl’s 2.5 year old box. We got a Citrus Lane exclusive Green Toys Flower Set (you build up a bouquet of flowers), Eco Kids eco finger paint (blue & green – you mix this up with water when you are ready to use it), the Barefoot Books “If You’re Happy and You Know It”, and the sample of Chocolate Hero cookies.
I have been really disappointed in Citrus Lane recently, because like you said, it has been the same core group of companies and I have been getting a lot of items in the same categories. There were 3(!!!!) months in a row when my daughter got a puzzle of some sort, AND all of those months there was also a book.
My extended subscription expired recently, and I refuse to pay the month-to-month rate. They haven’t had a great sale on subscriptions recently so I think I am done with Citrus Lane for now (after having a subscription for a little over a year). Those boxes a year ago were incredible, but now they are just meh for us.
I reviewed the 2 year-old boys box and a 3-4 girl’s mystery box. My sons box is fantastic, we received a green toy airplane, book with cd, and the finger paint (which I love because he eats it). I went ahead and purchased the mystery box around Easter with the lacing shoe and it was phenomenal, really had a value of $60.00. I think this might have been my favorite month. It is the first time we have not gotten puzzles, lol.
We got a 1.5 year old box for my son and loved it! We’ve been back and forth on the boxes lately–sometimes they’re meh, sometimes they’re exciting. The big winner this month was the Green Toys airplane. Airplanes are a current obsession in our house, and this is his first airplane toy. It has not left his sight–even goes in the bathtub with him! We also received Dinosaur Qubes (saving for when he’s a little older), another book (seems like we get one every month–loooove books, but we have about 6 dozen board books now! yikes), and a sample of laundry detergent. Our subscription is up this month, and I’ve been debating cancelling to save money (plus we don’t necessarily need more toys), but this box was a hit. Now I’m on the fence! All in all, we’ve loved Citrus Lane boxes. Haven’t tried a mystery box yet–we’re always too late to get the boy toddler ones–but hope I can get in on the action soon!
