Kiwi Crate boxes are designed around fun themes and filled with all of the materials and inspiration for hands-on projects for kids ages 3-7. L and I have been doing the projects together together for ages and always have a good time with it.
Kiwi Crate ships via FedEx Smart Post and generally takes about a week to arrive. I think Kiwi Crate ships in two boxes. One around mid-month and one more towards month-end. My box is in the month-end shipment.
I haven’t posted a Kiwi Crate review in a while, but we still have been getting our boxes. I may go back and do the reviews I missed or maybe not!
The May 2015 Kiwi Crate theme was “Science of Color” and included two projects – “My Color Separation” and “My Color Spin Art”.
Project #1 – My Color Separation Lab
The first project, My Color Separation Lab, allowed you to explore how colors separated. It was medium in the messiness scale, medium on the grown-up involvement scale and involved “discovering”, “creating” and “exploring”.
I gave L the instruction booklet and let him tell me what to do with this one. He did fairly well too and only needed my help a little bit. I would have thought they would have done something like this in school, but that wasn’t the case. We really wanted there to be a red marker though to see how it would separate in the water!
Project #2 – My Color Spin Art
The second project in the crate was My Color Spin Art. It was high on the messiness scale (it wasn’t that bad though), medium on the grown-up involvement scale and involved “exploring”, creating” and “discovering”.
We absolutely loved this project. We’ve done a few similar projects, but they never get old. Ever. L was able to successfully spin the paper / spinner and was also able to drop the paint droplets on it. We also found that if you didn’t get the paint to distribute enough you could just spin it again while it was still wet.
This month’s box also included an “explore! more” booklet and some additional project supplies. I have to say that we already used this green paint in the spin art so we may not be able to do all of these projects. Spin art is serious business.
As usual, the explore! magazine includes puzzles, games, stories and additional activities relating to the theme. We really liked the projects this month and I love that L can take charge of them!
