Mantry May 2015 Subscription Box

Mantry (aka the Modern Man’s Pantry) is a food of the month club that lets you discover the finest american artisan foods – and gives you ideas of what to do with them.  It’s $75/month and has been around since the Fall of 2012.  It’s one of the more expensive subscriptions we get, but B loves it!

The Mantry Crate

One of my favorites parts of Mantry is the crate it comes in.  We used a bunch for B’s bar in the basement and still have a bunch left over that we need to find a use for.  We’ll figure it out though.

The Information Book

The May 2015 Mantry theme was “Island Time” and included the following items to help you reel in summertime a bit more quickly:

~Granola Jones Pistach-A-Colada ($6.99): I don’t love pitaschios, but this mixture is pretty nice.  Mantry suggests it for breakfast with milk and sliced bananas mixed in and I think it would be good on yogurt as well.

~Hamakua Macadamia Nut Company Black Peppah Macadamia Nuts ($11.99): I was thinking Mantry was just going to suggest snacking on these with beer, but they have, what sounds like, an amazing recipe for a Macadamia Nut Crusted Fish Sandwich.  I can’t wait to try that!

~Jule’s Gourmet Jerk Sauce ($7.95): This is a new item and totally new brand for me.  It’s made in New York, NY and can be used a sauce, marinade, whatever!

~Fusion Jerky Island Teriyaki Pork Jerky ($6.99): IN the short amount of time that B will be home next month I suspect this will be consumed.  And quickly.  They are soy soaked pork strips and contain no artificial ingredients.

~Reed’s Candied Ginger ($6): If I was pregnant I would be all over these.  In fact, I don’t know why I didn’t ever try any ginger candies when I was sick every two seconds with WB!  I will save some of these for when the boys have tummy aches and will take Mantry’s suggestion of using them in cocktails too.

~Liber & Co. Pineapple Gum Syrup ($8): I know we have received this in the past.  If not in Mantry then somewhere else. I am all about trying the Barbados Rum Punch recipe Mantry suggests.  The sooner the better actually.

All totaled I came up with a value of $47.92 for the May 2015 Mantry.  I don’t except the values of Mantry boxes to be in excess of the cost of the box, but I do wish they’d be at least $60 or so every month.  It seems like the past few months the values are just getting lower and lower ;(. I really hope that Mantry wows us with an amazing value box next month!
