~Good morning! Like most everyone else I consider Memorial Day to be the unofficial start of summer, but it’s also a day to remember our fallen soldiers who gave everything for this country.  I didn’t realize it until a few days ago (and then found out more details in this article), but there is a national moment of silence today at 3pm.   You are supposed to drive with your headlights on if you are in the car, trains will blow their whistles, baseball games will stop, etc.  Basically just stop and remember.  I can’t remember ever hearing about this moment of silence in the past, but the kids and I will certainly observe it.

Thank.You
Thank.You

~We’ve got lots going on around here this week. Tomorrow is L’s Zoo Field Trip that I am going on with him and then I have my first Botox appointment after that. And the rest of the week is basically getting everything totally 100% ready for L’s schools end of the year carnival.  For those that have asked it’s basically your standard carnival / festival stuff. Food / snacks / games / prices / basket raffles / Photo Booth / bounce houses, etc.  It’s the school’s biggest event so there’s a ton to set up and prep before Friday!  Today we need to get some flowers for the backyard, grocery shop and get caught up on laundry.  Getting just 2 out of 3 of those done would make me happy though.

~End of the year teacher gifts!  Help!  I will probably post this in Two on Tuesday as well, but if you want to give me a jumpstart on your ideas, share away.  I have a few weeks before school is out, so if I need to order something I have time.

~A few POPSUGAR Must Have box reminders.  Don’t forget that the QVC POPSUGAR Must Have box goes on sale on on 5.29.15 (Friday).  The price / time have yet to be announced, but we have spoilers on it here.  Also, don’t forget that if you want to return your CFDA POPSUGAR Must Have Box for a fill refund, you need to e-mail them by 5/27 (Wednesday) to get return shipping label.

~Let’s see, what subscription boxes are arriving this week? I should be getting Birchbox Man, Boodle Box, For the Faithful, Five Four Club, Hammock Pack, my Sephora Sun Safety Kit and probably one or two more. Maybe a Kiwi Crate too. I think that shipped last week so it should be arriving soon.

~That’s about it from here!  What do you have going on this week? Any big plans for today? What boxes are you expecting?

I’m a teacher-I’ll tell you what not to give. Coffee mugs, anything with apples on it and stuff to sit on our desk or hang on the wall. Things I think most teachers love- gift cards, school supplies, things the kids have made and pictures of events throughout the year. I gave my son’s teachers a summer spa kit this year. It included a baby soft foot peel, nail polish, lotion, a tropical smelling candle and a bottle of wine (I know the teachers well and gave them the gift off campus).

Not a teacher but have friends who r..CONSUMABLES the way to go..food or bath items they love…I think the apple on it comment hilarious..lol..gotta get some stickers or apple tags and mail to that girl

ITA on your apples on it idea … So classic the apples for teachers maybe she is in Apple overload lol

I’m a teacher and I also agree….gift cards, summer/beach things, maybe some of the new Bath and Body Works soaps…all of those would be great! Handmade projects are also very nice. I, too, have plenty of mugs and apples. 😉

My husband is a workaholic 🙁 Just me and the little guy today. Our big plan is to plant his little garden/flower bed. It looks like I am receiving BirchBox Man, Sephora Sun Safety Kit, Kloverbox (Kelly posted the boxes will go out on Tuesday), Rainbow Honey mini bag (one time purchase), maybe Mask Genie, and maybe Kiwi Crate.

I always gave Target gift cards to the teachers. Enjoy your week! It looks like a lot of fun.

I forgot to add – Botox? You are younger than me!!! Is this cosmetically or for headaches? I must had missed this. You are brave. I read the warnings before and can’t get myself to do it. Most women I know do it. I will be the only one aging ungracefully. I have to keep up with those beauty masks!

We did a little potted flower. The pot was black and we painted “Thank you for helping me bloom.” In bright paint.

I always feel like gift cards are impersonal…what about some of those beautiful melamine plates I’ve been seeing everywhere and a bottle of sparkling lemonade. I think that would be a fun “enjoy summer” gift and I would love to get that from a student!

Wow…really? No coffee mugs or apples…just gift cards…might as well ask for cash. It’s the thought that counts especially if the kids are picking it out. I think it’s important for kids to take the time and thought to pick out presents and I do not include gift cards in this.

Kids can pick out things with parents’ guidance. I don’t think any teacher ever EXPECTS gifts, but if a parent wishes to do so, then sometimes parents appreciate ideas, like on this forum.

Did I tell you about my end of year gifts? For Cs preschool I did Thanks for a Grape Summer and took a purple mason jar and added some grape goodies inside. It’s on my blog. For Ns teacher appreciation this Friday I’m hoping to do Orange you glad its almost summer with tons of orange things. Of course I haven’t bought anything yet. LOL and then I’ll do a variation on the grape for his end of year gifts I think. Very corny but so cute and easy to do.

I don’t understand teacher end of year gifts. I mean it’s fine to get a gift for anyone if you WANT but at my boys’ school it’s an expectation. They really just did their job.

  9. Brooke

@Bridget it’s okay if you don’t want to get a gift for the person who just spent the last 9 months teaching your child everything they possibly could, but to add the comment “they really just did their job” is disgusting. Have some respect. I’m sure his teacher went far above her job description this year in educating her students (your child).

      @Brooke
Like I said in my original comment. It’s fine to give ANYONE at all a gift for any reason at any time for anything if you want. My point is that there is this whole expectation now of buying the teacher an AMAZING gift. I’ve read blog posts where teachers have made fun of or scoffed at what they have received. To me that is unnecessary. And there are many occupations where people go above and beyond all the time (social workers, nurses, paramedics, etc.) where there is no expectation of gifts. The keyword here is expectation. If my child doesn’t give the teacher a gift, does that mean my child did not appreciate the teacher?
