Two questions today..
1. What are you getting your mom for Mother’s Day? And if you are a mom, are you hoping for or doing anything special for Mother’s Day? My mom reads here so I can’t say what I am going to get her. As for what we are all doing on Mother’s Day, I am not sure. My cousins are coming in town for the color run downtown, so we’ll have a packed house all weekend. Hopefully I can sleep in a little on Sunday. I think B is going to take the boys to pick out something for me (I love seeing what the little boys select for me) and I am thinking his school will do cards with the kids too.
2. How often do you go grocery shopping? I need to go today so this is totally on my mind. I try to do one big trip a week and then always end up running back to grab more milk or whatever. I am always amazed by the people who can go once every two weeks and can meal plan that all out in advance. I am so not that together! If you are one of those people, share your secrets please! I would love to learn!
Now it’s your turn! Can’t wait to hear everyone’s thoughts on these!
I got my mom an Origami Owl locket! She has been oh-so-subtley dropping “hints” about wanting one, lol.
We go every two weeks but get our produce weekly – now that the local farmers market is open I get veggies and fruits there!
There are eight of us; half of us adults and working, so we bought her the Artistry Gifts Mother’s Day box and are buying flowers, cake, and pizza to enjoy at our mom’s home.
We do a large grocery haul maybe every month because we’re pretty busy and don’t like grocery shopping (hence, don’t make it a priority). It’s annoying having to run to the store every week for milk and cereal, but that’s what we choose.
I’m coloring my mom’s hair for her for mother’s day, that’s what she asked for. My husband planted a couple of trees and he’s giving one to his mom and mine.
We only go once ever couple weeks, we do have to go grab some milk and bread from time to time. However, there is only two of us so it takes a while to go through groceries.
No idea yet. My parents live like 15 minutes away in traffic so we’ll probably head over there. I’m sure my SIL will do a brunch.
I go grocery shopping a lot. Like multiple times a week. I’ve had a bad habit of letting stuff rot if it’s in my fridge for long, so I pretty much buy as needed. I’m fortunate to have one grocery store maybe 1 mile away and 5 others maybe 3 miles away- plus Target, Walmart and the grocery store chain I rarely go to. I need to learn how to menu plan.. I spend way too much money on groceries, especially considering there are only 2 of us, and half the time its like what do we even have to eat!?
Giving my mom the mothers book from the For the Faithful box and some homemade chocolate macaroons.
I work at a grocery store so I usually pick up what I need for the next day during my lunch hour. I’m single, so I can just pick what I want to make each day and not worry about shopping for a family.
My shopping habits are totally awful, I try to do a big one once a week where I buy almost everything but since the meat and chocolate milk are from a different store I need to do at least 2 trips, but if there is something good going on (in clearance, coupons, sales) I will do extra trips :S I need to change that but it is sooo hard.
Since I am far away from my mom, usually I ask my sister that she send flowers to her in our behalf and I send money so she can buy something nice or something she really want.
I’m an every 2 week shopper. After I got married we were wasting so much money eating out and going to the grocery store every other day. Now I somewhat meal plan for 2 weeks and we only eat out once a week. I only cook the amount I know we’ll eat. No leftovers going bad in the fridge. Its a lot of work! Last night it took me several hours to plan what I’m cooking for the next week, make my grocery list, and organize the coupons I will need. But I have saved so much doing it that way. I wouldn’t be surprised if we were spending over $500 every 2 weeks to eat. Now I usually spend around $140.
As for Mother’s day, I don’t know. My mom passed away 2 years ago, but I still have to worry about my MIL and my grandmother. Also, my older sister just had her first baby last week, and it will be her first Mother’s day, so I want to get her something special.
1) I got my mom the Mother’s Day Glossybox! I thought she’d get a kick out of the Orogold and everything else is just a bonus. 🙂 I have no idea if there are plans to do anything for me. I have been hinting to my husband that I need a new iPad charger, so here’s hoping! lol 🙂
2) We do a big grocery shopping run on the weekends and then smaller ones during the week, if we need anything, like milk. 🙂
My sister and I are putting together a day at the beach set for my mom, I found a cute little cooler by Cynthia rowelly at tj maxx and we are putting a beach towel, towel chair clips, govino wine glasses, bottle of wine, travel cork opener and a gift card to Eddie beaur.
For me I’m just hoping for a walk in the park with my family and lunch at the park
I consider myself a great grocery shopper, but I do go once a week because I refuse to freeze meat in weird that way and there isn’t a way around it, in general we don’t do freezer food so it requires fresh groceries
I have a routine for grocery shopping that I rarely deviate from. Friday evening is Target where I get some things like paper towels, trash bags, Ziplock baggies, etc. Not really groceries in that list, but there are some food items I get there from time to time, as well. Saturday morning is a local international market for produce (so cheap and lots of variety, but pretty good quality, too). Saturday afternoon is Whole Foods (for pantry goods, cheese, and eggs). And Saturday afternoon is also Publix, the regular grocery store, where I get milk and butter and dried beans and stuff like that. I didn’t start out going to so many stores, but I have a list of items I need most weeks and have chosen the stores where i will get the best deal on the items that will last the longest and/or of the quality I want.
I don’t plan meals too far ahead, I just always have a few random vegetables on hand that I can use for different things. Onions last awhile, zucchini can go in pasta or you can roast it or you can put it in vegetarian chili or burritos, etc. Sweet potatoes are also versatile and fairly long-lasting.
I’m getting my mom that Lilly tunic (lol) and a statement necklace.. grandma is getting a puzzle and I think I’ll bake her cookies or get her some really neat treatsie-style goodies…. but we’re not actually celebrating this weekend so I have time to think. Cards are going out tomorrow though.
Lately? never. I’ve been helping N out with his business and we haven’t had a home-cooked meal in 3 weeks? almost 4 weeks now? I miss it but it is what it is. Under normal circumstances I try to go once a week only and cook about 3-4 meals with what I buy.. but I typically end up running to the store in a panic when I realize I forgot an ingredient.
Grocery shopping is not my fave. So, I go maybe every 10 days (or when we start to have limited choices around here.) I am excited that the farmer’s market is now open for fresh produce- that will bump me up to around once a week.
Mother’s Day- Mom lives far away, so I dropped off a package (just something little- coffee mug & hand lotion) & took her to dinner last week when I was there. And I mailed a card yesterday.
Side note: I’m making Cinco de Mayo tacos with home-made tortillas tonight with my Hampton’s Lane tortilla press & masa harina! So fun!!
All of our anniversaries in the family fall around mothers day. So we are just doing a family hibachi day and small gifts.
I do Shoprite shop from home. Every two weeks i do this. Which for a family of 5 about $225/2 weeks trip and then milk veggies and fruit trip in the middle. Because no mayter how packed my fridge is with fruits and veggies we burn thru them fast. I do the shop from home because im not a smart shopper on the fly. I spend a fortune on junk. This way i plan a proper list. I know what the sale items are and i shop very smart. It works for me. I have been able to save on average $125-150 on a good thought out shopping list on line. Qnd ee are well stocked for lunches and such.
I’m getting my mom a Shirley Temple 18 Disc Movie Collection that she wanted and I’m always treating her to either lunch or dinner this weekend to celebrate.
I usually go grocery shopping once a week.
I ordered my mom some personalized stationary from Tiny Prints, and added in some new pens, a small painting, a mix CD, and a card. Then that all got wrapped up and packed inside a clutch. It went out in the mail today!
As for grocery shopping, I go once every weekend. I always try to write up a list, otherwise I always forget something – this week it was foil!
1. I got my mom an adorable bag from Dooney and Bourke and matching wallet. Her birthday is later this month too, and for that she’s getting a really nice leather Kate Spade bag with matching wallet and flip flops.
2. Ugh. Not enough. I live alone, so it’s my own problem if I run out of food. And I do. All the time. I haven’t been in a couple weeks, and my fridge is completely empty except for condiments and some butter. I still have a few things I can pretend are meals in the freezer… but I really need to go this week!
1. I got my mom the Secret Garden colouring book. She already had the $45 set of watercolor pencils. I gave it to her early and she loves it. I also got her a tote bag and a pair of Margaret M. Jeans.
I don’t think we are doing anything. I’ve left a lot of hints for my kidlets but if I get a bunch of carnations I’ll be really happy!
2. Grocery shopping is weekly here and sometimes more. Costco is every two weeks and regular grocery store in between. I have teens and they eat non-stop plus any given day there is an extra kidlet or two. I try to menu plan but they have jobs and lives out of the house. So food gets cooked and they reheat.
1. I’m getting my Mom flowers and some Lush. She’s the sort of person who’s already got everything, so I don’t want to throw useless clutter at her. Flowers will brigthen her day and any care product will be useful to her. She mentioned getting a new phone case, but she hasn’t been specific about which one, so I’ll leave that to her. And Lush has amazing Mother’s Day gifts 🙂 I’m also getting my sister a little something, seeing that she’s almost ten years older than me and she’s like my “second” Mom.
2. I’m SO lucky that I can get decent meals at work! This makes grocery shopping so much easier because I do not have to plan for lunch – besides the weekends, of course. I also use Google Keep on my phone and it’s the greatest help ever. Whenever I think of something spontaneously, I type it down immediately and since my phone is always with me, I can just check the list. I never really delete any of the checked off stuff, so I can put it back on “to get” before every trip.
I ordered flowers for my mom. She is in the middle of moving, so I don’t want to clutter her up with stuff. We usually buy her something really nice like a new watch but just didn’t this year.
Grocery shopping….I do a lot of it online actually. Between Amazon, Boxed, Schwan’s, and Home Chef, I go to the actual store maybe once a month or sooner if I need fresh produce.
No clue on Mother’s Day. LOL I won’t be seeing any of them this weekend so I have a little bit of extra time 😉
Way too often. We tend to do one big one on the weekend getting ready for school lunches and stuff and then I stop in a couple times through out the week for fresh meat or produce and stuff like that. I drive right past a harris teeter to go anywhere and Target is only about 5 min away so we can easily grab something new there. I also don’t keep a ton of extra stuff in the fridge and pantry so we just buy as we need and I find I don’t end up throwing away old food as much.
oh and I have another question for another day. How long do your kids take in the shower? and then how about you? This was a question in one of my local mom groups and it had such varying answers I’m really curious to see what is the average.
That is SO funny that you asked about the shower. L takes the longest showers known to man. I don’t know what he does in there, but he’s in there FOREVER. Has to be a good 20 minutes.
