1. I asked about this yesterday, but what are you doing for Teacher’s Gifts this year? I’ve done all sorts of different things – Stella & Dot necklace, Erin Condren teacher planner, gift cards, etc. for the teachers he’s had so far, but I want some fresh ideas for this year. His teacher is pretty stylish and has kids about the same age I do. Should I do something for the classroom? Something for her? A little of both?
2. Summer vacations! Are you going anywhere this summer? Other than up-north I am not too sure what we have planned. B and I were going to try and sneak in a little weekend in Vegas in August (because what better time to go to the desert than the hottest month ever), but I haven’t looked up any flights or nailed down a date yet so we’ll see. I know that WB (and L too although he won’t admit it) would go nuts for Thomasland, so maybe we’ll try and do that instead?
You can’t go wrong with a gift card, maybe from somewhere where you know they will have to get something fun for themselves like a movie theatre or sephora vs target (even though I’d be ecstatic with a target gift card). Over the years some of my favorite gifts from patients have been personalized, like a monogramed tote, clutch and personalized stationary. They all just felt so special and thought out. Something we’ve done for teachers in the past is make a personalized cd with all my kids’ favorite songs. We just did one with all new, fun songs that you’re hearing on the radio now so the teacher doesn’t have to download them. Then my son decorated the case with a picture of him and the teacher and left a really nice note inside with the song list. Everyone has always seemed really happy with those. Good luck!
I go all out at the end of the year and gift my kids teachers with birchbox subscriptions. Where my kids have one teacher, I gift a full year. Where there are two teachers (preschool), I gift 6 months per teacher. This is my second year to give them and the teachers all go crazy!
This year we are doing an 18 day road trip up the east coast. We are starting in Louisiana and hitting Gulf shores, Alabama then to a couple of places in Florida. Then on to Atlanta, Georgia up through South Carolina then to North Carolina. Then we are going to DC. Also stopping in Gettysburg, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Hershey & Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Then onto New Jersey and New York. On the way back we are going through Tennessee and hitting Dollywood and Memphis. Should be a blast.
As a teacher, I know gift cards are my favorite. I get way too many handmade signs, cutesy office supplies and other things that just end up piling up until I purge or regift. Giftcards to book stores are awesome (I can use them for personal OR classroom books) and of course Starbucks/Dunkin/Local Coffee shop cards are a great pick me up gift.
