Genuine Articles is a quarterly subscription box supporting charities and celebrating the artistic/entrepreneurial spirit of North American Muslims. Boxes include at least 5 items curated from the best makers and artists in North America.
Boxes are shipped via USPS Priority Mail on a quarterly basis in March, June, September, and December each year.
This was the first ever Genuine Articles box and I thought it looked fantastic. First boxes are generally tricky because you are working the kinks out and that sort of thing, but everything looked great here.
The June 2015 Genuine Articles charity was “SHARE Atlanta, Inc.” and the box included the following items:
~Grammy’s Kidz Natural Bath & Body Products – Peaceful Bath Salts ($18): These Dead Sea Bath Salts smell great! I received “Peaceful Balance” which I assume should be calming? B takes more baths than I do so he will likely use more of these than I will.
~hawwa do it art “The Heat” Print ($5): This is a print from Muslim artist Hawwa Youngmark who lives in Minneapolis and attends Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She enjoys working with mixed media drawings and paintings. The colors on this are even more vibrant in person and I bet the mixed media original is stunning.
~INKhandcrafted Handmade Charm ($12.50): INKhandcrafted was started by two sisters with the initials I and K, hence the name “INK”. I like that they explained in on their Etsy page because I was wondering why it wasn’t a stationery shop either. This could be used as either a keycharm or a backpack charm.
~Kelly Crosby Design Decorative Art ($15): This is an “IKEA Tweaked Vase”. It’s made by Kelly Crosby, an artist based in Atlanta, Georgia. It’s really cool in person and the texture from the paint is really neat.
~Mary’s Mariposa Handmade Raw Body Cream ($15): I have to say, this wasn’t my favorite body cream. It wasn’t bad, but it was a little too, I don’t know, liquid (?) for my liking? Totally a personable preference though. I imagine I could pop it into the fridge to firm it up and it’s be fabulous. I should actually try that!
All totaled I came up with a value of $65.50 for the June 2015 Genuine Articles box. I thought it was a great first box and really liked that the print didn’t account for a significant portion of the value like some boxes tend to do.
What do you think of Genuine Articles? If you are interested in ordering you can use coupon code “RAMBLINGS15” to get 15% off all subscriptions. The June box is still available, but supplies are limited!
Do you know what charities this box supports?
I think it would be very responsible of you, when posting a review of this sort, to list what they support. Is it education, is it women’s rights, or radical factions?
I included a link to this quarter’s partner, but it’s “Share Atlanta”. They are a social service and advocacy institution.
