Try The World is a bi-monthly subscription box that allows you to try products from around the world without leaving your house. Their team of travelers and local experts curates a collection of products that best represent each country / city. Boxes include not only delicious gourmet finds but also a companion on the history of the products and how to use them.
Try the World ships via USPS. Your first box will ship within ten days or ordering. Your second and following boxes will ship at the end of the month in which you are billed.
As usual with Try the World, everything was packaging beautifully and looked great.
The Marrakesh (Morocco) Try the World Box contained the following items:
~Dari Moroccan Organic Couscous ($4.50): Couscous is both nutriticous and delicious. It’s also very versatile and can be used for just about any meal you want.
~Dip & Scoop Culinary Argan Oil ($12.50): I am so used to seeing this as a hair or skincare item that it never occurred to me that it could be used in the kitchen. However, after reading a little about it on the website, it’s made differently from the cosmetic argan oil. This works for grilling, as a salad dressing or as a dip for your bread.
~Tajini Cous Cous Sauce (Olive & Lemon) ($1.99): Just add this to chicken (any meat you prefer really) or vegetables plus the provided box of couscous and you’ve got a meal. It’s easy, but it was also really tasty and I felt like I was having an authentic meal.
~Titus Sardines in Oil: Yeah, I know these boxes are all about trying new things, but I have tried sardines in the past and nope. I am not a fan. I think it’s the texture that gets me. I can’t do it.
~Kefta Rub Moroccan Rub & Spice Blend ($14.95): Kefta is a blend of cumin, paprika, morita pepper, mint, coriander, cilantro and cinnamon and is traditionally used to season Moroccan meatballs.
~Orientines Palmiers Pur Beurre ($6.50): Can you ever go wrong with a butter cookie? I don’t think you can. And these didn’t disappoint me. So good!
I couldn’t find prices for everything online, so I was unable to do a price breakdown on this box. Try the World does a great job of capturing the location they are featuring and while I may not love everything in the boxes, I do appreciate the curation. I do want to note that the contents of the Try the World boxes do vary, so you may not receive the same items as someone else in the same month. The values will be equal though.
What do you think of Try the World? If you are interested in subscribing (your first box will begin with Japan), you can use coupon code “SUBURBANMOM50” to save 30% off your first month!
I have a friend who subscribes to this and she gave us the couscous, the couscous sauce (which was raisin and onion I think(?)) and the kefta. I made the couscous sauce with chicken and carrots and potatoes and put it over the couscous and it was absolutely wonderful. I wasn’t too sure about the raisin thing but it was really good! And it tasted just like something I would expect to get in a Moroccan restaurant. We haven’t had a chance to use the kefta yet but I just love the way the jar looks. Need to use it ASAP because it smells fantastic!
It really bothers me that the contents of this box are consistently better on reviewer/blogger sites than the ones I actually get. That is an extremely shady business practice (just like the “FLASH SALE” for a free Paris box that you see if you go to their site right now, when the Paris box has always been free — shady) and I’m canceling because I don’t want to give my money to that type of company.
Good morning and happy Friday!
We received our Morocco box yesterday and were dismayed to discover that the top of the bottle of Harissa Red Chili Pepper Paste was bent open and some of the paste had oozed out in shipping. Is there any way we can get another bottle?
Thank you,
Lawrence Bauer
Hi Lawrence –
I just review subscription boxes on my site – I don’t own Try the World. You’d want to contact them directly through their website.
I hope they replace for you!
