Birchbox offers 4-6 (sometimes more) hand-picked beauty and lifestyle samples, delivered to your door each month. You can review the samples you receive on a monthly basis to earn points in their shop, which makes the “real” cost of the box even less. Points accumulate until you are ready to spend, so you can stockpile and combine with coupon codes to get some complete steals (which I try to do). I have been subscribing to Birchbox for over 3 years now and would say they are one of the best known subscription boxes out there.
Birchbox ships via USPS and all boxes generally ship by the 10th of the month. My box was actually “born” on the 10th, but it took forever to get moving. It actually didn’t update in the system again until the 17th. I actually thought it was lost so I e-mailed Birchbox (who has the best customer service by the way) and, wouldn’t you know, it started moving about an hour after I sent the e-mail. Figures.
Since I have two accounts I generally opt for that month’s curated box on one account and opt for the standard Birchbox on the other account. This review is on the August 2015 Birchbox + Candidly Nicole Curated Box.
With the curated Birchbox boxes you know exactly what you will receive. They announce the contents in advance so it’s easy (well kind of) to make a decision on which box you want to select that month. Because I do have two accounts I never have to make that decision!
The August 2015 Birchbox + Candidly Nicole box included the following items fit for the boss lady in all of us:
~dr. brandt microdermabrasion skin exfoliant (0.25oz / 7.5g) ($9.75): dr. brandt makes the best products. This one is an at-home microdermabrasion treatment. It’s to be used 1-2 times per week and will make your skin glow. I didn’t find it to be at all harsh and made my skin feel amazing after just one use. It also smell amazing. Kind of citrusy.
~LAQA & Co. Charm School Kit (Humble Brag) (0.03oz) (~$5): This is a true pink! I received a different shade of this in my other Birchbox this month so now I have two. I like both better on my cheeks than lips, but that’s just me.
~OPI Venice Collection Polish (Worth a Pretty Penne) (3.75mL / 1/8fl oz) ($2.38): Love! This looks like a glittery penny and I can’t wait to use it. I love nail polish in general so I knew I would like this.
~Rene Furterer LISSEA Leave-In Smoothing Fluid (15mL / 0.5 fl oz) ($3.69): This leave-in treatment provides protection during heat styling and also tames hair from flyways and frizz. I haven’t gotten a chance to test this out yet and actually may end up passing it along to one of my cousins to use. It sounds like a great product, but I have lots of hair items I need to use up and I think they would enjoy this.
~St. Tropez Gradual In-Shower Tan (50mL / 1.6 fl oz) ($5.97): An in-shower tanning product? Yes please! I cannot wait to start seeing some big results from this. I think I have found a new holy grail right here! It takes away all the mess of a self-tanner and lets you add it to your daily routine!
All totaled I came up with a value of $26.79 for my August 2015 “Birchbox + Candidly Nicole” Box. Including the points I get for purchasing the box (10 points = $1 to spend at Birchbox) and reviewing / sharing the items in the box (60 points = $6), the value increases to $33.79. I loved Nicole’s picks and I think I found some new favorites in here!
