Hazel Lane June 2015 Subscription Box – “Venice”

Hazel Lane sends a carefully curated box of surprise goodies from that quarter’s selected city that they think represents its spirit.  The idea is to give you an affordable way to explore the world without having to leave your house!  Items you can expect to see included are food, drink, clothing, accessories and handcrafted items chosen by locals with the environment, social responsibility and CHICNESS in mind. I subscribe to the Ladies “Carry-On” box which is $45/quarter.

Hazel Lane was previously a monthly subscription, but recently switched over to quarterly subscriptions.  They have been undergoing a ton of changes lately and things have been a little (okay a lot) confusing.  They were accepted into the accelerator program by 500 Startups and (I believe) are working on launching a box (called The Mini Bar) which will be available at hotels across the United States.  I am fuzzy on the details, but I am hoping Hazel Lane also continues as a quarterly subscription because I do like their boxes.

The Box

Hazel Lane ships via USPS and generally takes just a few days to arrive.  This box was supposed to ship in June/July, but mine didn’t actually arrive until earlier this week (aka the second week in August).  I had to e-mail a few times before I actually received this box too.  This was very unlike Hazel Lane and I really hope things go back to normal soon.

First Look

I had checked out spoilers for this one weeks ago, but I couldn’t remember what on earth it was going to include when I finally did receive my box.  Turns out it had some extra items in it which I assume are because the box was so late?

The Information Card

The Hazel Lane “Venice” Ladies box included the following items:

~Eco-Amp ($10): The package says that this is for iPhone 4/4s, but I am sure I can rig it up to fit my phone. This environmentally friendly iPhone speaker amplifier is designed and manufactured in Los Angeles and I must say, I have never received anything like it.

~Stone Votive Candle ($2.99): I guess the duo behind this candle is working on creating the official scent for the City of Santa Monica – the town next to Venice.  I had no idea that cities had such things! Anyway, I like 99% of candles so this will work for me.

~Plant & Color Airplant ($9): Sadly my airplant is pretty much dead (I guess that’s what happens when it sits in a box too long), but I probably would have killed it myself if I’d had it long enough. I will take the shell and throw it in my fish tank and call it a day.

~Rose Ave. Sweets ($4): I suspect these chocolates are nothing short of fabulous, but since they have been boxed like this for over a month now I didn’t think it was the best idea to try them.

~Gold Ink Tattoos ($4): I have so many of these metallic tattoos!  I don’t think I have applied one yet either.  I am going to start letting the kids put them on and using them on my nails (I think a few people mentioned that this will work).  I wonder if I could use them on a craft project of some sort?

~MyYogaworks Download ($25): As you can see, this promotion expired on 7/31/15. Considering that I didn’t get my box until a few days ago that’s not going to work.  Had I really wanted to try it (and had this trial not been coming in another box this month) I may have contacted Hazel Lane, but I didn’t think it was necessary in this case.

~Hail Tiger Print ($24): I believe this print is a 4×6.  $24 seems steep for a smaller print, but I do love it.  It’s the type of thing I would pick up if I went to Venice on vacation (and I actually did go visit Venice on vacation once and thought it was a very cool little town).  And it also is a perfect fit for this box.

~Bonus: Il Morso Coffee / Tea Bars: Well these might just be my dream come true.  You eat them like chocolates and get the energy of coffee and tea. They also offer a monthly subscription which I need to check out!

Additional Items

~Spiritual Gangster Tote Bag (Arizona Box) ($15): I believe this was originally from the Arizona box.  I love the tote and, so far, it’s my favorite item in the box.  Had this box arrived on-time I wouldn’t have gotten this, so I am rather lucky it was late ;).

~NativeValues Dream Catcher Boho Necklace (Los Angeles) ($28): I actually love this too.  It’s not something I will wear, but I think it will make a great decoration.

I didn’t do a cost breakdown on this box because of the special additional items I received. Had these other items not been included I would have been less than thrilled with this box.  It wasn’t the best box I have seen from them and half of my items were unusable by the time I did get my box.  However,  I was pleased that they did throw in those two items and I really hope that everything they’ve had going on calms down before their next shipment.

I haven’t been able to figure out where the next Hazel Lane box is taking us, but I will let you know when I do!

Kind of a big swing and a miss….dead plant, old candy, old phone item, expired coupon. At least you got some extras, but not sure that really makes up for the other issues.

Oh, and official scent sounds so So Cal it isn’t really that strange to us living here…LOL

It was all over the place this month. Well last month. LOL!

I couldn’t even imagine Detroit, MI having an official scent. I can only imagine what it would be. Ha!!!~

If you haven’t already tossed it – I’ve revived semingly dead air plants by submerging them for 30 minutes in water, then let it dry naturally.
    Good luck!
