This looks really nice — until I looked at the price. I am totally confused how on earth these items even add up to $50. Three pencils? A box of matches? A tin candle??? And what am I supposed to do with a pillow cover? I don’t even have the faintest idea of how or where to buy a pillow to put into it. I suppose I could figure out the answer to that question, but not after I just paid $50. I’m going to have to pass on this.
I’ve gotten pillow covers in a box or two in the past. If either stuffed them Or bought an insert. You can get them super cheap on Amazon.
Totally agree, love the concept of the box but the items are so odd and nowhere near $50. I could go to Target and get lots of cute things for my desk for under $50. Plus I haven’t used a pencil that required a pencil sharpener since I was in 4th grade. (That was 20 years ago)
Since this lady isn’t Kate Spade, I agree with Melissa. It’s worth about $25 IMO. If you want quality desk accessories that are also useful, go to KS. If you want cute matchy matchy things which are so 80’s it’s pathetic, go to a Hallmark store.
Who uses matches in their home to need a decorative box of them? We use long fireplace matches only, for our fireplace. Outdoor grills come with a self- lighter now.
Pencils? For what?
This is the most RIDICULOUSLY overpriced bunch of tchotchkes I’ve ever seen, except for another high priced box that had the entire pillow and unmatched coasters a month or so ago.
I guess that’s where this lady got her ” inspiration”.
I’m going to try to dig up some costs on these items later! You’ve got me curious!
My point is that these are, by and large, useless things. Not useful desk accessories at all. Pocket matches and 3 pencils and a useless handmade tiny ” tray”? Why would you want these things on a desk in 2015?
Tchotshkes all, except for the pillow cover, and as we saw with ” Decoterie” , the quality and value of pillow covers also vary WIDELY. One sub. blogger received a ” $150 SRV ” leopard print pillow from the lady’s online store. Others received a different style pillow that looks extremely ” less than” the one leopard print pillow.
I’ve bought enough decorative pillows of this size in the covers at IKEA, Pier One, and SteinMart just to name 3 sources of very pretty pillows ( not pillow cases) to know that a pillow doesn’t have to be expensive at all to be pretty and functional. $10 throw pillows for DAYS at those places.
It’s just common sense.
I found the matches on Etsy a minimum of 50 for $55, so works out to about $1.10, the pencils are also only sold in 6 packs for $2, so $1 for pencils. The print is hard to figure, because the prints on the site are 11×14, limited editions only 5 prints per size. So this print is about 1/2 the size and probably made in mass quantities. The ceramic tray is $18, so between those 3 items it’s only $20, I don’t know what brand of candle that is or the pillow cover and the print is hard to estimate. I found a similar pillow cover for $15 on Etsy, but it’s only available in 12X20, 16X20 or 16X24.
There are some cute KS office items Birchbox
I don’t really get hung up on dollar value when it comes to subscription boxes (unless it’s unreasonably low), but I do put a value on curation, and more specifically, the value of putting unique things together that I can’t find or would not think to buy on my own. Unfortunately, there is nothing special about this box that would make me spend any money on it. Like others have mentioned, it’s too easy to go to almost any store and get items like this and for less money. It’s an easy pass for me.
i saw this and thought, aw cute! but then saw the price.. which doesn’t include tax OR shipping.. yikes!
I’m like everyone else this is a cute box then I saw the price tag. #ByeFelicia. Seriously you can get pencils on clearance since back to school is over (well at least in southern Arkansas). If they lower the price or get better stuff I think I could roll with this box.
