My Julep NY vs. LA Mystery Box (I opted for the NY) has arrived! I ordered it last week and also opted for an add-on with my box. Since I ordered a Fall Mystery Add-On, I really have no idea what items were part of the MysteryAdd-On and what were part of the Mystery Box, so am going to review them all as one. I really need to stop ordering Mystery add-ons because it drives me a little crazy that I can’t separate them.
If you aren’t familiar, Julep is a monthly nail polish subscription service. They offer a “My Maven” box for $24.99/month which contains $40+ worth of product and polish or “Maven Luxe” for $39.99/month which contains $60+ of prestige products. Both boxes are fully customizable and you have the option to switch between tiers. Every once in a while (probably every month or so) they offer Mystery Boxes which are available for purchase by subscribers and non-subscribers alike.
Julep ships via FedEx Smart Post (starts out with FedEx and is delivered by USPS) and took just a short time to arrive.
This box was packed!! Mystery Boxes don’t include information cards, but here is what my NY Mystery Box (plus Fall Mystery Add-On) included:
~Julep Plie Wand ($20 / $25): Getting one of these in my Mystery Box made me realize that I don’t use my own plie (which I used to think was “pile”) wand nearly enough. Like I used it at first and then kind of forgot about it. I did think it helped make polishing easier, but not easy enough for me to remember to use it on a consistent basis I guess? If you have one of these I am curious to hear if you still use it? I am going to give this to my Julep obsessed friend and see what she thinks.
~Julep Rock Star Hand Creme ($16 / $20): I love Julep’s hand cream! Like the package says, it’s a hit! I use it on my hands and elbows and have always been happy with it. It’s thick, but it rubs in nicely and doesn’t leave your hands all greasy.
~Julep Nail File & Buffer Block (~$3): Not overly exciting, but useful. I always need more nail files and I do like buffing my nails with buffing blocks.
~Julep Oxygen Nail Brightening Treatment ($14.40 / $18): I NEED to start using this. I constantly have polish on my nails but mainly because they have been looking like crap otherwise. And if my polish ends up staining my nails, well, I can’t more polish on there fast enough. This is supposed to help strengthen nails and brighten them.
~Bianca (Bombshell) ($11.20 / $14): Bianca, which was in all LA vs. NY Mystery Boxes, is a textured silver holographic glitter. I’d need to throw another polish underneath for better coverage, but I think it’s a great silvery glitter.
~Fifi (It Girl) ($10): Fifi is a tea time pink creme. I like this color, but it doesn’t really like me unless I use a bunch of coats of it. I may have to do a layer of white polish underneath to give me the coverage I want.
~Michelle (Boho Glam) ($11.20 / $14): Michelle is a midnight, inky blue crème. I almost think this one looks a little teal. In the right light it does that’s for sure. It’s very fall like which is what I was hoping for from this box.
~Colton (It Girl) ($11.20 / $14): According to Julep, colton is a black iris creme. I think it’s more purple than black though. It’s certainly fall-like and will be on my nails next.
~Julep Travel Caddy: I don’t know that I *need* a travel caddy for my polishes, so I may use this as a large manicure kit. Just leave a couple polishes and tools in it and grab it when ever the mood strikes.
All totaled I came up with a value of $97 (that’s using discounted Maven pricing) for the Julep NY Mystery Box. That doesn’t include the value of the Julep Color Caddy because I can’t find a price for that online. After coupons, I paid $34.98 for the Mystery Box plus my Mystery Add-On set, so it was totally worth it.
Did you order a Julep NY vs. LA Mystery Box? What’d you think? They are no longer available, but I will for sure post when they release the next Mystery Box.
