First Look

Mickey Monthly notes in their FAQ that they are NOT able to provide $60 worth of merchandise in a $59.99 box.  They buy the items at retail prices from the Disney parks and then have to take into account travel time, shipping costs, paypal fees, etc.  They note that you can expect about $40 worth of items in a $59.99 box.  I appreciate that they clearly note this on their website so you aren’t surprised when you try and add up the costs from your box. All that said I didn’t know what to expect, but I knew it wasn’t going to be a “value” box.  It’s more of an experience box.  My August 2015 Souvenir Only – “Just Right” ($49.99) box contained the following items:

~Disney Holographic Placemat ($9.95): Very cute!  I love that it has SO many Disney characters including Duffy the Bear!  I think he’s adorable.  Anyway, I doubt we will use this as an actual placemat, but it will work nicely as a mess mat for art projects.

~Mickey Mouse Keychain: I don’t know why, but WB was really into this when I opened up the box. He’s been really into Mickey Mouse Clubhouse since we got cable so that may be part of it.  Maybe I will clip this onto his backpack for school.

~Stitch Hand Sanitizer Soap: All the kids in L’s school like to have hand sanitizer on their backpack and I haven’t gotten him a fresh one for the new school year yet so I was thrilled to see this!  It will clip on his backpack perfectly and it’s a character he loves.

The Back

~Mickey Mouse Magnetic Notepad ($6.95): Love this!  It’s magnetic and adorable. I love paper products / office supplies so this is right up my alley.

~Disney World Coloring Book ($1.99): This may be the least expensive item in the box, but I think it’s my favorite.  The tag on the back says it’s $1.99 so that’s the price I went with, but it’s on Amazon for $6.50.  Anyway, it’s a classic disney coloring book.  Great pictures of the characters, lots of assortment, etc.  It’s just the perfect Disney coloring book.

I would estimate that this month’s Mickey Monthly box had a value of somewhere between $35 – $40. I couldn’t find prices for much online because it’s only available at the Disney Parks.  My original plan was to get this and save items for the boys to open in advance of our Disney cruise, but I am pretty sure we will use all of this before then ;).  I am going to stick with this one for a few months because we’re having fun with it!

I am a CRAZY Disney fan, but this box just seems way overpriced to me. I get that the items seem to be parks exclusive and you’re paying for the time and effort of the person getting the items. Sheesh, as a AP-holder for Disneyland, I wish I had come up with this idea. I know I have seen Parks personal shoppers on Instagram, but you pick the items they send to you.

      Ha! You should do it!

Wow way overpriced. I love Disney and go there all the time but I really don’t think the curation is there it was a lot of cheaper Disney items. It would have been nicer to have a higher priced item with a 1or 2 smaller items. The Box cost $59 and you get $35 to $40 worth of items. That leaves $19 to $24 for shipping and travel time. Just wow.

Mine was $49.99. I think all the different priced boxes are super confusing! It’s so hard to explain!

We are going on our 1st Disney cruise in Feb and can’t wait.

We just got back from Disney 4 days ago. I saw most of that stuff in the Disney outlet store. I bought the placemat for $2. I definitely saw the notepad, the keychain and the coloring book at the outlet. This box definitely doesn’t seem worth $50.
