First Look

Mickey Monthly notes in their FAQ that they are NOT able to provide $60 worth of merchandise in a $59.99 box.  They buy the items at retail prices from the Disney parks and then have to take into account travel time, shipping costs, paypal fees, etc.  They note that you can expect about $40 worth of items in a $59.99 box.  I appreciate that they clearly note this on their website so you aren’t surprised when you try and add up the costs from your box. All that said I didn’t know what to expect, but I knew it wasn’t going to be a “value” box.  It’s more of an experience box.  My September 2015 Souvenir Only – “Just Right” ($49.99) box contained the following items:

~Disney Racers – Woody (~$6): This is something we easily would have bought on our own during a trip to Disney.  In fact, I feel like we may have actually purchased this sometime?  WB was thrilled with it and opened it immediately.  He’s obsessed with cars so it really was ideal.

~Donald Duck Snuggle Snapper (~$15): I am not too sure I understand this.  Some of the websites (Amazon, ebay, etc.) I found it on call it a bracelet, but are you really going to wear a stuff Donald face down on your wrist?  I think not.  He’d be cute holding a little gift or something along those lines though.

~Minnie Mouse Antenna Topper ($7.95): I wasn’t exactly sure what this was when I opened the box, but I eventually figured out that it was an antenna topper.  Which is fine because I do notice tons of them when we go to Disney, however, I don’t believe my car even has an antenna?  I may stick a magnet to the back and use it on the fridge.

All totaled I came up with an (estimated) value of $28.95 for the September Mickey Monthly.  I estimated a lot of the items, so it could be slightly higher.  While I know that the value of these boxes isn’t going to equal the cost, I thought this one was just too low.  So while the items are cute and it is fun, I doubt we will end up sticking with this one for much longer.

I wonder if the Donald thing is supposed to hug the upper arm? Which would still be weird for everyday wear, but I could see kids walking around at Disney like that maybe.
