The Information Card

The October 2015 Prospurly theme was “The Harvest” and included the following items to help bring the feeling of Autumn into your home and in your heart:

~Honey Girls Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix ($14.99): The information card prices this at $14.99, but that seems really expensive for a cookie mix. Really expensive.  Also, I can’t find any information on Honey Girls cookie mix online (according to the tag they are on Etsy, but I couldn’t locate the shop), so I am not sure what to make of this.  The mix itself contains almond & coconut flour, coconut sugar, coconut sugar, chocolate chips, baking soda and sea salt.  It sounds good, but really just doesn’t look like a subscription box item.  It’s more like something you’d make your neighbor for Christmas.  Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I would at least expect a label and a plastic seal on it. ETA: Thanks for Shannon I was able to locate this shop on Etsy!  From the looks of the images on Etsy, this mix is supposed to have a layered look to it, but it obviously got shaken up in shipping.  I feel much more comfortable with this knowing where exactly it came from!

~The Suds Cafe Handmade Pumpkin Spice Soap ($5.50): This soap is handcrafted and contains 100% natural ingredients – like coconut oil, oatmeal, botanicals & spices and high-grade essential oils – all of which is sustainably-sourced.  As you can imagine it smells fantastic and I love that you can see each of the layers / ingredients in the soap.

~Valentina’s Homebrewed “Protection” Bath Salts x 2 ($7): I have gotten this in another box, but I can’t recall which one off the top of my head.  One of the yogi boxes I think?  The blend of “positive-energy-inspiring sea salt and essential-oil based bath salts” is said to ward off negative thoughts and emotions and ensure sleepful nights and inspiring intentions.  I am going to take the advice of the card and use one for myself and gift one to a friend.

~Skin Nutrition from Nature with Love Pumpkin Cream Lip Balm ($3) and Pumpkin Pie Lotion (2oz) ($5): Obviously I love this. The lotion smells delicious and while I don’t like to eat pumpkin pie, I certainly can’t stop smelling my hands!  And of course, I love lip balm of all sorts so this is a win.

~Bliss Pharm Beauty Cinnamon, Clove & Tangerine Hand Sanitizer (1oz) ($11):  This is a great fall scent!  It’s called Harvest Moon and is a great blend of cinnamon, clove and tangerine.  I love the tangerine mixed in with the “deeper” fall scents.  It’s always nice to keep hand sanitizer in your purse and having one that smells this good is even better.

~Tin Pony Soap House Cinnamon Whiskey Candle (8oz) ($16): Another awesome item. If a box includes candles, lip balm or nail polish, I am generally going to be happy with those items!  Cinnamon Whiskey is a fantastic (not to strong) scent.  It’s made with all-natural American grown soy, is paraffin-free and also hand-crafted,

~Benescentials Fall into Winter Aromatherapy Spray (2oz) ($15): I plan on using this as a room spray. I think that’s what it’s supposed to be used for, but it’s not totally clear that it’s a room spray as opposed to a body spray?  Anyway, it smells very *fall-like* and again, I love that they put the orange in there for a little citrus scent.

All totaled I came up with a value of $77.49 for the October 2015 Prospurly.  That’s using the $14.99 price for the cookie mix, which, as I mentioned seems really high to me.  I’d probably value that at $4.99, which makes the “real” value of the box $67.49. It’s still higher than the cost of the box, but it’s also not the $80+ value they promise.

Just because I was curious I looked up those cookies on Etsy and if you run the words together HONEYGIRLSPALEO you’ll find them, I agree though that price seems too high and should have been sealed in some fashion.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!! It was driving me crazy last night!!

I loved this month’s box. I signed up for last month’s box after they sent a spoiler email with the coffee scrub and glad I didn’t cancel again yet. I LOVE pumpkin anything so was super excited to get the lotion and lip balm. I loved how everything smelled, thought it was one of the best boxes I’ve received in a long time. I didn’t swap anything from it, which is very rare. I don’t think $14.99 is too high for a cookie mix, look how pricey the ones from Birchbox and PopSugar were. Sure they were from brand names or big companies; this one was in a glass jar. I thought it was a perfect Fall box, worlds better than Little Lace Box’s “Autumn” box.

Yeah, you are right. I just looked and the PopSugar one was $12.99. I actually bought some from that same brand from Target for $7.99 or $9.99 last Christmas. I guess it’s not that crazy!
