Kiwi Crate ships via FedEx Smart Post and, in general, takes a week to get across the country to me.
Everything arrives sealed in a plastic bag. This particular project doesn’t have too many “pieces” to it, but I liked that everything was enclosed and protected.
Kiwi Crate “My Glowing Snow Globes” included all of the materials necessary to make wintery snow globes and light them up. It was high on the messiness scale, medium on the grownup involvement scale and involved “creating”, “discovering” and “moving – fine”.
The instructions were clear and very easy to follow. My 3 year-old and I worked on this project together so I was the one following them, but I know that my 7 year-old could have easily done this entire project by himself with these instructions.
The materials speak for themselves really, but I want to mention that the “globes” are made out of plastic and not glass. Also, the only additional material needed to complete this was water.
WB is obsessed with snow globes so I knew he would be all over this crate. L wasn’t feeling crafty so he sat this one out.
Step #1 was to pour the glitter in the globes. The instructions said to make sure you saved some for the other globe, but since there were two tubes of glitter WB poured one tube in each globe. We then added water to the globe – leaving about an inch of free space at the top.
After adding water we screwed the caps back on and shook them up! This *might* have been WB’s favorite part! The next step was to add stabilizer (I’m not sure what it was, but it was clear and had the consistency of a dish soap) and stickers. The stickers were are removable and reminded me of window clings. We didn’t take any pictures of the sticker application, but it was pretty intense. WB opted for penguins and trees, while he instructed me to do a snowman and reindeer. I thought WB might have trouble getting the stickers off the sheet, but he did awesome. I think it helped that they were more vinyl and less sticky.
WB and I were both thrilled at how these turned out. We took turns shaking them and made B and L come check them out too!
Seriously how cute are these? I cannot get enough of them. I absolutely love how they turned out. I only wish that Kiwi Crate would have included two holders and two little lights (you put in the light in the base to make it glow) so we could display both at once!
