Nina Garcia Quarterly

Quarterly is a new way to connect with the people you follow and find interesting. Quarterly Co. offers subscription boxes (which are shipped on a quarterly basis) from well known curators which are filled with things they love. This is the Summer (I really have no idea at this point) Nina Garcia Quarterly Co. box (#NGQ06). If you aren’t familiar, she’s the Marie Claire Creative Director & Project Runway Judge. This box is $100/quarter and was supposed to ship back in July. Yes, July. After numerous delays, it eventually arrived on the last day of October. They don’t actually bill you until a few days before they ship though which is nice.
Quarterly ships via FedEx Smart Post and took just a few days to arrive to me. This box shipped out of Wisconsin and I am in Michigan so it didn’t have to travel far.
I knew what was coming in this box because I had been hunting like crazy for spoilers. Still unwrapping everything in it was fun!
The Nina Garcia Quarterly Co. box (#NGQ06) theme was travel essentials and included the following items:
~Baggu Solid Navy Canvas Duck Bag ($26): I love Baggu and am a big fan of this bag. It’s sturdy and has both top handles and a shoulder strap. It also has an inside pocket for your passport and / or phone. I didn’t realize it when I saw the spoilers, but this box actually had a lot of variations. So far I have seen this bag in Navy, a Navy Stripe and a brown leopard. I am quite pleased I received the solid navy! If you got a different variation, please share details.
~Chic Buds Clutchette Power ($49.99): This also came in a ton of colors. So far I’ve seen coral, brown, black and yellow. Yellow wouldn’t have been my first pick, but it’s fine. It’s a wallet that doubles as a charging station for your phone. It’s a pretty cool idea and basically a guarantee that I will never be without my charger because I am never without my wallet.
~Flight001 F1 Caffeine Supply Eye Mask ($16): I totally understand the sleeping mask / travel connection, but listen I would feel crazy wearing this on a flight. And not crazy in a good way. And really, I cannot imagine Nina Garcia wearing this either. I believe there were variations of this sent as well, but I am not sure what they all are.
~Flight001 Rubber Luggage Tag Happy Hour ($7): I’m not super excited about this (not coming from this box anyway), but I will throw it on my suitcase for sure. Not because I think it’s really cute, but because it is neon green and will make my bag super easy to spot on the carousel. But again, it’s not something I see Nina Garcia putting on her suitcase you know?
~Pinch Mini-Emergency Kit for Her ($16): This I love. I have long been a fan of Pinch Minimergency Kits and think they are adorable. They have all the essentials (from bandaids and clear nail polish to a sewing kit and a tampon) and come in a cute little bag.
~Emi Jay Classic 5-Pack Hair Ties ($11): Hair ties are always a win and I can always use more of them. They are an absolute must while traveling and honestly I could go through all five of these on a weekend trip.
Jane Iredale Facial Blotting Paper & Compact ($11): I love blotting papers and will definitely use these. I don’t know that I will use them while traveling though because airplane air dries out my skin and doesn’t make it oily. But still, I will use them.
~Weleda Skin Food (1 oz. travel size) ($12.50): I love the Weleda line and a hand-lotion is a travel essential for me, so this is a good fit. The lotion is rich but not greasy and absorbs quickly.
~Flight001 F1 X-Ray Passport – Orange ($10): This *might* be the worst picture ever, but I could NOT get fluorescent orange to photograph correctly (well I probably could have if I dragged my big camera out, but I use my iPhone for 99.9% of my pictures), but I didn’t think it was worth it. You know what fluorescent orange looks like. I have a gorgeous leather passport cover from POPSUGAR so I don’t have too much use for this. This is another item I really cannot see Nina Garcia using. I may put one of my kids passports in it, but it’s not something I need.
~Shoebox Pro One Year Voucher ($60): This is actually the most “valuable” item in the box. I’d never heard of it before, but Shoebox Pro is a storage app that allows unlimited photos and up to 10 hours of video to be stored. I don’t know that I need something like this (isn’t that what the Cloud is for?), but I’ll give it a try.
All totaled I came up with a value of $219.49 for the Nina Garcia Quarterly Co. box (#NGQ06). That includes the $60 voucher though. I wasn’t feeling this box. At all. It just didn’t fit with what I would expect to see from Nina Garcia. There’s SO much that could be done with a travel themed box and I think this missed the mark. It had a lot of items I would have expected to see in a Fancy Box (they no longer offer boxes) rather than in what is supposed to be a high-end fashion and beauty box.
Did you get a Nina Garcia Quarterly Co. box (#NGQ06)? What variations did you get and what did you think of the box?
Nothing about this looks luxe or high-end. I would use everything in that box happily, but I think I’d be disappointed about having spent $100 on something that’s supposed to be fancy and specially curated by a fashion expert.
I agree. I’ve never purchased any of her boxes but I’ve loved seeing the reveals as they come out. This was a complete miss…It all looks like stuff I can buy at Target or Walmart. I’d be extremely disappointed if I spent $100 on this.
I paid $160 counting delivery and exchange for this box. I can honestly say I hated at least half of it (except for the items you mentioned above). And I cancelled my sub. Soooooo very disappointed 🙁
OUCH!
And to add insult to injury, I got to pay an extra $11 in customs fees. This sub is cursed, I tell you!
I got this box and am really disappointed
– I travel a lot, and have gotten very similar things (and brands) in other boxes – don’t need more eyeshades, totes, passport holders or luggage tags…
– the clutch I got is coral – bad luck that I don’t like it…..
– the items don’t feel either luxury or fashion forward – which is what I expected from Nina
– there was no mention of why it was so late
– the descriptions were oddly/carefully worded – that she would use ‘a bag’ not this bag; similar with the passport cover, eyemask, clutch……I paid $100 to get things she would/might use
But the upside is that it has broken me of getting expensive boxes!
I got yellow if you’d rather that. We could swap.
Thanks – not a fan of yellow either….
I’d love to know why it was so late! What were they “securing”?
I did not realize that Quarterly changed their policy about returns, and I am quite upset that I didn’t cancel before this shipped. It’s not worth $100, especially because the $60 photo storage will be completely useless unless you pay more to review. I would have cancelled earlier, based on the past few boxes, but I didn’t, because I figured I’d return this one if I hated it.
I can’t remember when they changed the policy? It was right around the time they started charging for shipping. Maybe Spring / Summer??
It looks like it was as of January 2015. I did an angry Google search earlier. I’m not pleased.
It’s not that I don’t like the things in the box. For the most part, I do. I travel a ton. But for a $100 luxury box, this is not great. And I very rarely complain about subscription boxes, even if I don’t love what’s in them. I know it’s a risk, and even if I don’t like it, the value is usually enough that I can gift or whatever.
This entire box was a disappointment. I would have been happier had I not received that leopard print for the Baggu duck bag, but it looks like this entire box was just destined to be terrible for me.
I didn’t get the box but i agree with everyone. With $100, you could easily get 2 FabFitFun boxes which would have been over a $500 retail value (based on the last two boxes) . I agree that the items weren’t luxurious enough for this box.
Worst. Box. Ever. Have cancelled my subscription.
