Macy’s The Spotlight
Cost: $9.99/month
Ships To: United States
Coupon Code: N/A
The Spotlight is a brand new subscription box from Macy’s. It’s $9.99/month and will include one full-size product along with an assortment of beauty and fragrance samples. I signed up for the waitlist on this one AS SOON as I heard about it, but haven’t gotten off the list yet (it seems like the Waitlist is closed right now too). Happily the folks at Macy’s asked if I’d like to review a box and I jumped at the chance.
The Spotlight is super new still so I don’t know that they have a set shipping schedule. My box arrived via USPS and shipped from San Francisco, CA.
I loved the November box and I was really hoping that this month’s box would be equally fabulous.
The Spotlight by Macy’s doesn’t include an information card, but the December 2015 box included the following items:
~The Bag: Last month’s bag was this exact same size and shape except it was sparkly black instead of sparkly gold. I loved the black and love the gold even more.
~Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (2mL / .06fl.oz) ($3.64): Eyeshadow primer is used under your shadow as a base to help give you more vibrant, crease-free color. Believe it or not, this helps your shadow stay perfect for 24 HOURS. Why you’d need to have perfect eyeshadow for 24 hours I’m not sure, but the option is there. I thought it went on somewhat shimmery, but it turned matte when it dried. It makes your lids eel very smooth and does exactly what it promises. No creases here!
~Lancome Definicils High Definition Mascara, Black (0.07fl.oz / 2.07mL) ($8.37): This mascara gives you lots of length which I love, but doesn’t make make them look like you have spider eyes. It’s drier than lots of mascara I have tried, but it’s still not clumpy or flakey.
~Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium (Free Sample): This is really “deep”. It’s stronger than what I would normally select for myself, but I didn’t hate it. It has notes of Coffee Accord, Orange Blossom, Cedarwood Essence, Patchouli Essense. It smells much better after about an hour of wearing it than it did right away.
~Marc Jacobs Decadence (Free Sample): I often try to guess the notes of the fragrances and I knew a lot of these right away. According to the description online, this has notes of Italian Plum, Iris Flower, Saffron, Bulgarian Rose, Jasmine Sambac, Orris, Vetiver, Papyrus Woods and Liquid Amber. I picked up the Vetiver and Amber right away. It’s another strong scent and, while pretty, isn’t something I would wear daily.
~Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss (Undressed) ($16): Last month’s Spotlight included an Anastasia lip gloss as well. Happily though I received a different shade this month than I did last month. This is super glossy and not sticky at all. Undressed is a shimmery beige with a hint of pink.
~Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief (.21fl.oz / 7mL) ($4.82): Clinique just screams Macy’s to me! I used to freak out when it was Clinique bonus time. I can’t remember why I stopped using Clinique, but I probably never should have because my skin looked great back then. Granted I was like 20, but whatever. Their Moisture Surge locks in moisture without being greasy or heavy.
~Benefit lollitint (2.5mL) ($6): I don’t believe I have ever tried lollitint before! It’s a creamier, more pink/purple version of their famous benetint. You can easily blend it with your fingers and the color lasts for ages!
All totaled I came up with a value of $38.83 for the December 2015 Macy’s The Spotlight box. I wasn’t as wowed with this box as I was with the last one, but listen, this is an amazing box for $9.99. AMAZING! The Waitlist is closed right now (in fact, the website doesn’t even seem to be working if you aren’t a member), but I will post as soon as it’s back up!
What do you think of Macy’s The Spotlight? If you were lucky enough to get a box, what did you think?
Ugh!!! I want to get on this list! I want this box!
Arghhhh! This looks fabulous and I love eyeshadow primer! Between Macy’s and Sephora I’m starting to believe I’ll never get off the wait list! I’d much rather have this then Ipsy!
Anyone know if they have opened subscriptions up to those who don’t have a blog?
I don’t know if anyone has actually gotten off the waitlist. I know they opened subscriptions in October and didn’t advertise it at and within like 24 hours or something, the spots were all full. I didn’t hear about it until after that and signed up for the waitlist right away. Still on it!
Personally, I like the Sephora Beauty Box better.
I wish I could get my hands on that box!!
