Birchbox
Cost: $10/month
Ships To: United States. However France, Spain and the UK also have their own Birchbox subscriptions.
Coupon Code: Subscription Box: “BAGGUGIFT” to get a free BAGGU® bag when you join Birchbox or “WGIFT” to get a Women’s sample bundle when you spent $60+ on Gift Subscriptions.
Birchbox offers 4-6 (sometimes more) hand-picked beauty and lifestyle samples, delivered to your door each month. You can review the samples you receive on a monthly basis to earn points in their shop, which makes the “real” cost of the box even less. Points accumulate until you are ready to spend, so you can stockpile and combine with coupon codes to get some complete steals (which I try to do). I have been subscribing to Birchbox for over 3 years now and would say they are one of the most (maybe the most) well known subscription boxes out there.
Birchbox ships via USPS and all boxes generally ship by the 10th of the month. Both of my boxes shipped before then this month though (last month too).
Since I have two accounts I generally opt for that month’s curated box on one account and opt for the standard Birchbox on the other account. This review is on the January 2016 “2016: The Year of…” Birchbox. You can check out my review on the curated box option here.
My January 2016 Birchbox included the following items:
~Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré (24-Hour Miracle Cream) (5mL) ($2.67): This cream can be worn under foundation to give your skin a silky smooth look. It also can be used as a makeup remove, a post-shave soother and a baby cream. What? It does everything! I love a multi-purpose product like this and I thought it made my skin look better even without foundation on top. I’ll be buying this in a full size.
~TONYMOLY Delight Tony Tint (No Size Listed) (~$2): This also appeared in the curated box option this month. Like I mentioned in that review this is a STAIN. It lasts forever. Like forever. Be ready for some color!
~R+Co DEATH VALLEY Dry Shampoo (75mL) ($17): I love me some dry shampoo. This stuff smells fantastic and better than that, it works. It takes the oil out without leaving a mess of white residue. It’s just good dry shampoo.
~amika Bombshell Blowout Spray (1fl.oz / 29.6mL) ($4.43): This spray adds volume and smells amazing. It’s designed to be used on wet hair, but it works on dry hair too. I used it on my hair when it was dry and I thought it added shine and texture. I don’t know if I have ever met an amika product I didn’t like actually. It’s just a great line.
~Eyeko Fat Liquid Eyeliner (Full Size) ($16): If I liked eyeliner I would be excited about this. It’s full sized and it’s just fun. I had fun testing it, but I just don’t wear eyeliner.
~Stickers: The box also included stickers to put on the front of your box to show your theme for 2016. I don’t know what mine is going to be yet, but any box that includes stickers is clearly a good one ;).
All totaled I came up with a value of $42.10 for my January 2016 Birchbox. Including the points I get for purchasing the box (10 points = $1 to spend at Birchbox) and reviewing / sharing the items in the box (60 points = $6), the value increases to $49.10. It was a high value box box and a really good one for me!
