First Look

Boxwalla boxes (the boxes themselves) are carefully crafted from tree-free handmade paper. Boxwalla contracts a small company in Rajasthan, India, to makes the paper from cotton scraps, using the traditional art of paper-making that involves 9 steps and takes several weeks. The handmade paper is then meticulously fashioned into the boxes that you see in the pictures. The boxes are not only cool, but the process employs 63 local villagers and 20 skilled artisans whose families have been making paper for generations.

I really enjoyed the beauty box I received from Boxwalla and was hoping that the food box would be equally as good.  Both boxes shipped in the same size package, but the food one was packed extra full.

The Information Card

The December 2015 Boxwalla Food Box included the following selection to add something special to your Holiday breakfasts:

~Inna Jams’ Fig Jam ($13.50): Black Mission Fig Jam is made with fresh (not dried) organic figs.  The information card suggests a breakfast tart with puff pastry topped with this fig jam and a dollop of goat cheese.  You don’t have to get all fancy if you don’t want to though. You can use this on toast or even on pancakes.

~Oregon Truffle Oil White Truffle Oil (2oz) ($14.99): The card suggests adding a little of this to your eggs or whipping it in with cream cheese or mayo.  I never would have thought of that on my own and I can confirm that it is amazing mixed in with scrambled eggs. It made them so much richer and just made them seem more gourmet!

~Blackbird Salty Sweet Granola ($11.95): I have been obsessed with granola lately.  I cannot get enough.  It’s good on yogurt or ice cream (and even in salads), but I like to eat it as a snack.  It’s sweet and salty and I may need to hide it so I stop eating it ;).

~Chocxo Guantupi Single Origin Chocolate ($8.50) & Chocxo Organic Dark Chocolate + Espresso Chocolate Bar ($1.99): I wasn’t sure what chocolate had to do with breakfast (not that I mind the suggestion), but Boxwalla answered that!  They suggest using the Guantupi Single Origin Chocolate as sipping chocolate (melt it on low heat) and then you can sub the other chocolate bar for your morning coffee because it has expresso in it!  Okay, I am kidding about substituting it, but you can have a little for breakfast right?

All totaled I came up with a value of $50.93 for the December 2015 Boxwalla Food Box.  Not a value really (it’s just about equal to the cost of the box), but the curation was great and you don’t pay shipping on the products this way.

From Boxwalla:
For the February Food Box we have chosen a spread of some of the most delicious, mouthwatering confections we could find. There will be chocolate. Filled with sweet surprises and surprising flavors : blood orange, vanilla bean, strawberry, pepper; roses peeking from unexpected places. Toothsome delights: some creamy, some chewy. Showcasing artisans all over the U.S. who’ve made these sweetest things.
