Julep is a monthly nail polish (and beauty) subscription service. They offer a “My Maven” box for $24.99/month which contains $40+ worth of product and polish or “Maven Luxe” for $39.99/month which contains $60+ of prestige products. Both boxes are fully customizable and you have the option to switch between tiers. Subscribers prior to 4/29/14 were grandfathered in at the $19.99/month rate, however, they will need to upgrade to the $24.99 subscription if they want to customize their boxes. I finally decided to upgrade to the $24.99 subscription so I am now able to customize my box.
Julep ships via FedEx Smart Post out of Ohio and tends to take just a few days to arrive to me. You can expect to receive your box in the first few days of the month.
I am such a sucker for a freebie and always get three add-ons so I can get the free item you get when you get 3+ items. I have a friend who is obsessed with Julep products so even if I get a duplicate polish color (which I typically do), it never goes to waste.
The January 2016 Julep Theme was “New Year, New Look”. I selected the following items in my customized box:
~Shay (Bombshell) (0.27oz) ($11.20 / $14): Shay is a celadon iridescent chrome. It’s sort of mermaid like and really gorgeous. A great change of pace from my normal super dark winter polishes. I don’t mention it enough, but Julep polishes are 5-free and are made using a vegan-friendly formula that also includes strengthening Hexanal and antioxidant green coffee extract. 5-free means that polishes are made without Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin and Camphor. You’ll notice the difference as soon as you open a 5-free polish because you don’t get that big whiff of chemicals.
~Julep Tali (It Girl) (0.27oz) ($11.20 / $14): Tali is a glacier breeze linear liquid holographic. That’s what Julep calls it anyway. It reminds me of the movie Frozen. I would call it Frozen Blue. I always go for Julep’s liquid holographic polishes because you can get away with not doing a perfect job polishing your nails and no one will know.
~Julep No Limits (1.7oz / 50g) ($24): Julep No Limits is a brand-new “indulgent moisturizer for any place that needs a spot of intensive hydration”. The cream itself is thick and rich and does work to soothe dry spots. But the dispenser cap? That needs some work. I had to push the little “push to dispense” button a few dozen times before anything came out. And then when it did come out I thought maybe I did it wrong because it came out all around the sides of the opening and not the little hole? Maybe it’s supposed to be like that? I looked on Julep.com and it seems like a few people took the lid completely off this one. That seems to be the way to go!
~Add-Ons / Freebie: This month I added on the Clean Slate Conditioning Nail Polish Remover (the dispenser on that really does work) along with “Joss” (a ripe fig duochrome) and “Celeste” (a mahogany iridescent molten). I received “Janae” as my freebie polish. I paid $18 for my extras, which I think is quite reasonable.
All totaled I came up with a value of $46.40 (that’s using Maven pricing) for my January 2016 Julep Box. I paid $24.99 and was pleased with this box. I also love that you can skip Julep as needed.
