~Good evening! It’s cold here! Brr! The boys went to the movies today (and saw Norm of the North), but other than that it’s been a pretty good weekend to stay home. I got my closet basically cleaned out and need to start on my dresser next. I don’t know where I was planning on going in some of those clothes I had in there? Geez. I would love to start thinning out the kid’s toys as well, but I may have to save that for next weekend because that is going to be a project.
~Did you see that Lego wall in the last episode of Fixer Upper? How awesome was that? Has anyone tried something similar at home? I think it looks so cool. I love their storage idea too, but I am totally wondering how all those Legos actually stayed in the baskets attached to the wall? It seems like they’d all fall out the bottom / sides no? Regardless I know want to make a lego wall.
~Does anyone have any movie recommendations? I want to watch something that B wouldn’t want to watch, so maybe like a chick flick? I have been overloading on old Sex in the City episodes at night and need a change!
~I mentioned last week that I have been thinking about painting some of my furniture white and someone mentioned chalk paint. I looked into it and yeah, that’s totally what I need! I considered picking up some Anne Sloan Chalk Paint, but opted instead to order this Renaissance Chalk Furniture & Cabinet Paint from Amazon. No real reason other than it gets good reviews and doesn’t require me to go on a trek to pick it up. I am going to start with the wood IKEA coffee table we have and see what happens. I’ll post before and afters.
~I am going to spend some time updating the subscription box list tonight, so if you know if any boxes that need to be removed / added, please let me know!
That’s it from here. I hope you are having a great Sunday night!!!
i’m totally watching the second half of white house down in a few minutes 🙂 does that count? it has channing tatum.
Have you watched Trainwreck? We recently saw it and thought it was pretty hilarious! I’m otherwise way behind on movies.
I did see that episode of Fixer Upper and thought it was really cool! I do think it probably won’t stay so perfectly organized for long though. Fixer upper is my favorite home show on HGTV, those two can do no wrong in my eyes!
You should totally watch Man Up! My boyfriend and I watched it and he loved it. Sort of reminded me of Bridget Jones Diary ?
It’s not a movie but I just binge-watched the first season of Younger and loved it! The second season just started last week. It comes on TV Land. ?
I did a bunch of my living room furniture in chalk paint I made with regular paint and grout. And then I waxed it and I love how that ended up. It is a vet matted looking surface. Which works well with this furniture. For my bedroom I had two night stands that were super dark wood and belonged to some long dead relative. I bought white American paint company chalk paint, their clear coat finish, and my mom mailed me this dark wax. So those I painted white. And it dried really chalky so you go over it with the clear coat and it hardens it. Then I rubbed on the dark wax and you buff it off and it leaves the furniture looking antique. I absolutely love how they ended up. My bedroom is pretty girly with some antique furniture and this just adds to the light happiness of it. I keep looking for more old furniture to redo.
Just a warning: ikea finishes can be tough to paint over, even with chalk paint. I’d test on an inconspicuous area first. And since this is your first project, I wouldn’t splurge on Annie Sloan. Both Michaels and Hobby Lobby carry chalk paints, and you can use a coupon! You can check out what I do at http://www.facebook.com/Seasoned style to see I know what I’m talking about! 🙂
Ohhh, I love your stuff!!! So, if it does’t take the paint, do you think I should sand it lightly? I already bought the paint so it’s kinda too late to get different stuff, but I will test it an out of the way spot first. What brands do you like?
Thank you! Yes, I would try sanding first, just scuff up the surface. I use all different brands, depending on colors, but one of my favorites is General Finishes Milk Paint. It’s an acrylic paint so it bonds wonderfully, but you can distress it without it gumming up like regular latex. Good luck with your project, can’t wait to see the results!!
Did you see “what if”? my husband was not very convinced when i suggested the movie, but he like it and we had a good time 🙂
I know I.am behind in movies but I loved the longest ride with scott eastwood. on fixer uper barn house I am not sure about the kitchen being upstairs and did they do a master suite… I love that show and my parents picked my wife/husband
I once used the annie sloan chalk paint to paint a big shelf, and it worked great but it was so expensive. So then i looked online and found how to make my own chalk paint, its a mix of paint and plaster of paris, and it worked pretty well on my dresser. I would say the only difference was that the sloan paint was easier to sand off, when doing that antique look.
