Two questions today..

1. Did you make any New Year’s Resolutions? I can never seen to keep any resolutions I make, so I don’t bother making them anymore. Instead I’m thinking about putting a chore (that I have been putting off) or goal on my “To Do” list every month. This month is cleaning out / sifting through the kids toys. It’s long overdue! I need to figure out what to keep, what to put away (and save for grandkids one day), what to donate and what to sell.

2. What book are you reading right now?  I don’t have one a fresh one picked out yet, so I am hoping for some ideas!  I have a bad habit of reading mainly the same type of books, so I am thinking of giving the POPSUGAR Reading Challenge a try.  It doesn’t give you specific books to read, but instead gives you direction on books to choose and aims to “broaden the scope of your reading in 2016”.  That’s what I need!

I’m looking forward to hearing everyone’s answers!

I’m doing that challenge! My first one is “book that is being made into a movie this year. I just started The 5th Wave. The list is pretty daunting.

Usually my resolution is to lose weight, but I always get discouraged and fail. So I’m work on getting healthier, eating less processed foods, making myself eat breakfast no matter how much I hate it, and doing some kind of workout 5 days a week!

    (1) This year I am using My Fitness Pal. It is eye opening about some things — a piece of buttered whole wheat toast has as many calories as a 2-egg omelet with vegetables and a little feta. But I have never counted calories before and I am at that age when it is difficult to lose weight so I figured I would give it a try. I often find myself madly running on the treadmill in the evening so that I can actually eat a decent amount of food. I ordered a home gym with some of the proceeds from selling my old condo. But eventually the soreness will go away and I should see some results.

    (2) I am reading a book called “The Tyrant’s Law” by Daniel Abraham. It’s a fantasy novel, 3rd in a series. I pretty much only read fantasy novels and occasionally health books. (I am a moderator for an online forum about fantasy books.) I think I read around 60 books total last year, about 55 of them novels. That’s pretty good for me since I have a full time job.

My resolution was to stop buying clothing made in China unless it comes from a thrift. And even then I’m going to really watch it.

I don’t usually make resolutions because I don’t like being disappointed, but I’m going to try to stop using obscenities in my daily speech. Because I don’t gain anything from dropping F bombs all the time. And it probably makes me sound stupid.

I’m currently reading Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. It’s pretty good, and in googling to get the right spelling of his last name, I discovered that they made it into a movie a few years ago. Of course, it’s not on amazon/hulu/netflix though. 🙁 I’ll probably just borrow it from the library, when I’m done reading it.

A recent study showed that people who swear have larger, better vocabularies than people who don’t. I’m keeping my F bombs! (Click my name for a link to an article about it.)

My New Year’s Resolution is also to lose weight. I’m going to do that Couch to 5k thing and I’m going to go on Medifast. I know I can lose weight on Medifast because I’ve done it before — it’s a good program, just last time around I didn’t transition properly. You’re supposed to learn how to keep the weight off and I skipped that part last time around. Guess that wasn’t a great idea lol!!

I’m doing a modified version of the PopSugar reading challege with a bunch of FB friends, so I’m currently reading The Mango Bride. It’s written by a Filipino woman who emigrated to America and the characters have a lot in common with her, so it’s interesting learning about life in the Philippines and for immigrants. It also has a great opening scene, where a cook finally gets fed up with listening to her boss whine and complain and stabs her with a paring knife. How many people are there that I’ve wished I could do that to?….. LOL

I joined a bookclub and have been blown away by the books we’ve been reading! My faves are Me Before You & Before I Go to Sleep <– Loved that one! Fiction, but good ones.

I just finished a really good book called “The Shock of the Fall” by Nathan Filer. It’s a really interesting take on mental illness and grief. And I found my (signed!) copy at Target, too.

  9. Adriana

    1. Yea I never make New Years resolutions.
    2. I just finished reading Winter which is the last book in the Lunar Chronicle series by Marissa Meyer. Loved all the books!

    1) Only resolution I could come up with this year is to top how many books I read last year which was 80. I’ve already finished 2 books! I think I’m going to try to do the popsugar reading challenge as part of it.
2)The book I just finished was amazing and would meet the ya best seller on the popsugar list Need by Joelle Charbonneau . I couldn’t put it down and finished the book in about a day.
