Two questions today..

1. Do you have any craft / DIY projects you are working on right now? I don’t have anything started, but I want to refinish my media stand in my living room. It’s black right now and I really like it, but I want a change. I’d love to do a distressed white with some different hardware. This is all easier said than done however and all projects will have to wait until B get home because I can’t move any piece of that thing on my own!

2. Do you have any amazing Basket Raffle Ideas?  I am chairing the end of the year party at L’s school (yes, and Mom-2-Mom) and part of that includes a basket raffle.  So I need ideas!  What amazing ones have you put together or come across at fundraisers? I am thinking about some themed baskets movie night, family game night, dog, cat, coffee / tea, gardening, lots of few kids ones, etc. but I need more ideas.  Mainly super creative ones that will be amazing but don’t cost a ton.  That isn’t too much too ask is it? LOL!  But seriously, I know you guys will have great ideas!!

I’ve done an Italian dinner one that was cute with a colander at the base and fixings for a pasta dinner. You could also do a book/reading one for kids and one for adults. Good luck!

    1. Cindy

Iwe get donations parents local biz target 90 off and I’ll send list..good luck!

  2. Kristin

What about a mom pampering basket? You could use extra sub box stuff you get tons of. Masks, candles, eye cream, books, bottle of wine, sweets….

At our school’s big auction fundraiser each year, the “dad” themed ones are always a hit and bring in a lot of money – just b/c there’s always so many “mom” baskets. BBQ, grilling, tailgating, golf, camping, manly snacks, etc.

Downton Abbey Basket! I’m obsessed with it though, lol.

At my daughters grade school, they did yearly basket raffles. Each class decided on a theme and the room mom would collect items from the children in that classroom and put together. I was a rom momfor years and always enjoyed doing this. We also would collect items from local businesses in the area and put together baskets from what we received.

I think my huband and I are going to DIY our entire kitchen in a month or so… I just don’t know what I want to do with my countertops yet.

We just had breakfast with Santa at our school where we have a ton of basket raffles. Our two biggest sellers were a shopkins basket the kids went crazy for I swear we made at least a thousand dollars on it! It had shopkins from all the seasons, shopkins games, play sets etc. The other one that did really well was a fitness basket with a Fitbit and other fitness things such as headphones, workout DVDs, resistance band, even an iTunes gift card and Athleta gift card that was a huge seller also!

A Get Well Soon Basket-it can include a cute mug, tea, comfy socks/blanket, tissues, cough drops, lip balm, journal, etc. A Chocolate Basket-can include chocolate and chocolate items from cheaper to more expensive.

    1. I’ve been trying to be really resourceful when it comes to food so that has taken up all my DIY energy. Last night I made homemade spaghettios.

    2. A few ideas:
    – An adult craft basket with adult coloring books, paint brushes, polymer clay, etc.
    – A “Love from Michigan”-type basket with Michigan products, Michigan-themed things, and travel guides.
    – A Jerky basket, maybe with some salsa or hot sauces.

  10. Chris

    A movie at home basket:
popcorn, popcorn seasoning, movie theater type candy boxes, a couple movies or redbox gift card,

    1. Nothing specific on the go other than organizing the house & decluttering and creating a gallery wall

    2. Few ideas
-Beach basket, towels, sunscreen, beach bag,
    – gift card basket – variety of them
    – bucket of booze – two
varieties different beers or a bunch of the mini wine bottles
    – spa basket (get a massage donated) along with other pampering products
    – teens – a nail basket
    – movie night in

We had people bring in their “unwanted gifts” throughout the year & we’d make baskets up on a Saturday

If you’re looking for neat and unique hardware for your media stand, my Mom has an Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/HOBKNOBINWITHGAIL?ref=pr_faveshops

I did an apple pie basket for a raffle and it was a HUGE hit! Boxed crust, a small bag of fresh apples, cinnamon, a pie plate and a roller. I lined a basket with a pie themed dish towel.

Thank you! I will check her out!

For your refinishing project you might want to consider chalkboard paint; it’s not paint for making chalkboards. It goes over anything without much prep, and the results are beautiful. My sister just did this on her daughter’s kitchen cabinets and it’s so pretty. I’m going to do mine in the spring.

    1. Jennifer

You know, I have heard this, but I never tried it. My cousin actually used it on her floors. Not actual chalkboard paint because she said it was expensive, but some mixture that looks like chalkboard paint? I want to see before and afters of yours!

What about a pool/beach basket, a gardening basket, tailgating,

Hmm just a couple that I could think of.

    1. Jennifer

Those would be fun! It’s going to be hard to narrow it down!

No way. We need to get our block wall pulled out/extended (to “fence” in more of our yard, as right now there’s a huge chunk of side yard that is practically unusable. And we’re hoping to get the bathrooms renovated this year but both of those projects will be left to the pros. Except part of the bathroom, I guess, because I found a company (and used them on minor work before with fantastic results) who will let us help! Also on this year’s to-do is to fix our landscaping because right now it’s a mess. I have a tendency to quit and leave projects in limbo forever so I am not starting anything right now.

For baskets, an emergency Bug Out Bag might be a hit- first aid kit (bandages, antiseptic, pain relievers, tweezers, etc), some freeze dried food, hand/foot warmers, headlamp(s), guide book, survival kit (whistle, waterproof matches and/or firestarter, compass, paracord (I’ve seen bracelets made from them and knives that have the handle wrapped in it)), duct tape, a knife or multi-tool, some sort of map & compass all thrown in a backpack. Bonus points if there are Emergency preparedness classes near you that you could throw in.

I like projects that are quick. I have no patience. It’s so bad.

My big project is destashing/moving around furniture in the house. This is a full year project though. I can’t afford new furniture. But I have two young seamstresses to help me with slip covering some of it.

Basket wise, I’ve seen a few different things. You have probably thought of it, but the schools here always have one with donated by parents stuff with the different themes. One is of the school’s stuff or school colored theme. Another is of OSU (I’m in Ohio, so that’s why) stuff. And they have the sports teams baskets. Normally there aren’t tickets involved, but one year someone DID donate tickets for the sports one and a year pass for the school one. The biggest one I knew that got the most money was a lottery ticket basket. Like someone above said, ask local places for donations.

    1. Jennifer

I want to see before and afters!!!! I bet it is going to come out amazing!!!!

I bet Sports team baskets would be very popular here! Thank you!

  17. Greta

Our school also always did baskets where each class/ grade was asked to donate. It seems like sometimes it was each grade, each class or boys/ girls. Ideas that come to mind, gift cards, movies (dvd’s), books, babies, action heroes, hot wheels, beach/ pool theme, scrapbooking/crafts, outdoor fun, etc. also top money makers were principal for a day and a reserved parking space for afternoon carpool.

    1. Jennifer

I am planning on including front row tickets to kinder and 5th grade graduation. Those should be popular ones!

  18. Amanda

I’ve seen lotto baskets which I thought was a neat idea. Also a college basket which I thought was useful it was put in a laundry basket.

    1. Jennifer

A lotto basket would be fun!

  19. heidi

    Binge watching basket.
Snacks, drinks, nice throw blanket for snuggling during binge watching

    1. Jennifer

      Good idea!!

  20. Sarah

I have gotten a BBQ themed gift basket before and really loved it. It had some different rubs and seasonings, grill tools, and some different accessories for cooking different things (burger press, skewers). We have used everything in it!
