Kiwi Crate March 2016 Subscription Box Review - "Magic"

Kiwi Crate boxes are designed around fun themes and filled with all of the materials and inspiration for hands-on projects for kids ages 3-7. It was one of the first boxes I ever subscribed to and we still love it.

Kiwi Crate ships via FedEx Smart Post and generally takes about a week to arrive. All of my Kiwi Crate boxes (Kiwi Crate, Koala Crate and Doodle Crate) arrived together in one large box this month, as they have been lately.

I knew this box was going to be a hit from the start! L, my 7-year-old, actually just requested a magic trick set from his most recent school book order.

The March 2016 Kiwi Crate theme was “Magic” and included three types of tricks “Magic Movement Tricks”, “Magic Box Tricks” and “Magic View Tricks”.  My cousins were in town for Easter so we all worked on this together Easter morning.

Magic Movement Tricks

The Clingy Confetti

From the look on his face here, I am not sure L expected this to work. You had to charge the wand by rubbing it on the provided felt cloth, but after that, it picked up the confetti without any problems.

The Spinning Matchstick

Again for this one you had to charge up the wand and then the magic starts to happen.  We didn’t charge it well enough at first, but sure enough, after trying again we got the matchstick to magically spin around. You had to move it with a slow, steady hand, but it did work.

Magic Box Tricks

Make a Magic Box

The girls had a hard time making this one.  LOL!  To be fair, I likely would have had an even harder time.  Kiwi Crate included markers so you could decorate your Magic Box, but we decided to skip that step.

The Handkerchief from Nowhere

I was actually rather impressed with this trick! The secret compartment in the Magic Box really did hide the handkerchief away.  L wasn’t quite as impressed as I was when someone else did the trick, but he was pretty into it when he got to do it.

The Bunny in a Box

There may be a little overacting in this picture (LOL), but it was neat to see the bunny appear out of nowhere.  Again though, make sure to really charge up your wand!

Magic View Tricks

The Disappearing Coin

I wasn’t paying attention to how this project was constructed, so when I watched them do it I sat there and thought, wait, what? Turns out you glue a yellow circle to the bottom of the cup so the quarter can be easily hidden / revealed.

The Changing Picture

I couldn’t get a good picture of the changing picture, but it turned out really neat!

explore! Magazine

As usual, the explore! magazine includes puzzles, games, recipes, experiments, stories and additional activities relating to the theme.
